The Blade has not wrestled since an injury in February and reportedly underwent back surgery at some point, which can be a risky proposition for in-ring athletes. However, during a virtual signing for RDP Promotions over the weekend, his wife Allie provided an update on her husband, revealing that he is now two months removed from back fusion surgery.
Allie mentioned that The Blade is recovering well and has recently begun physical therapy as part of his ongoing rehabilitation. She said, "He's hanging in. He just started his PT. His back surgery went really well. I'm really proud of him. He's doing a ton of stand-up comedy right now, and he's really just focused on getting healthy."
Allie herself is a retired Canadian professional wrestler and competed under the ring names Cherry Bomb and The Bunny. She is most recognized for her tenure in Impact Wrestling from 2013 to 2019, where she became a two-time Impact Knockouts Champion.
Additionally, she was part of AEW from 2019 to 2023. She left the company after a Championship Eliminator match against former AEW Women's World Champion Jamie Hayter in which she suffered a legitimate broken orbital bone.
In April, the Blade posted a message on Instagram to explain his absence from the ring. He wrote, "Hello Instagram My apologies, it's been a while. I'm currently off the road nursing a lower back injury. 2 bulging discs, L2 L3 and L4 L5. Plus two ruptured discs, L3 L4 and L5 S1."

He continued, posting "I'd like to thank @aew and @tonyrkhan for giving me this time off to heal. Plus, I've got the Buffalo,NY magic man pictured with me here, @anthony.albano.dpt . Time off can be a rough place for athletes mentally. Anthony's physical therapy is helping me stay on track and I can't sing praises high enough about the sweet science behind his training. I'm not sure where this journey I'm on is gonna lead. But, I have a lot of options and a great team around me and that's a beautiful thing. Love ya everybody."
The Blade began his career working in WWE developmental circuits before moving on to Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG), Chikara, and Championship Wrestling from Hollywood. In 2017, he debuted as half of the tag team The Butcher and the Blade, eventually joining AEW in 2019.
