Video footage of a member of Kamala Harris' campaign staff canceling the Vice President's speech has gone viral on social media.

Campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond addressed supporters at about 12:30 a.m. and announced that Harris will not be speaking tonight to supporters at her watch party at Howard University in Washington D.C.

"We still have votes to count, we still have states that have not been called yet," Richmond said.

A video posted to X by CBS News reporter Nidia Cavazos at 12:39 a.m. ET showed a campaign staffer telling film crews to turn off the lights at the watch party.

"Light's off," the campaign staffer says, while doing a gesture toward the cameras.

The video has been viewed more than 478,000 times as of 2:49 a.m. ET.

Harris Campaign chief Jen O'Malley-Dillon sent an email to staff about how the race was still undecided. The email was widely circulated on social media.

"We've been saying for weeks that this race might not be called tonight. Those of you who were around in 2020 know this well, it takes time for all the votes to be counted, and all the votes will be counted, that's how our system works," O'Malley-Dillon wrote.

"What we do know, is that this race is not going to come into focus until the early morning hours.

"We'll continue to keep you all updated as we get more information. This is what we've been built for, so let's finish up what we have in front of us tonight, get some sleep, and get ready to close out strong tomorrow."
