Walton Goggins posted a behind-the-scenes selfie while preparing to shoot Fallout season 2.
Pictured in a detailed latex mask to reprise his role as the Ghoul, Goggins captioned his post on Instagram: "Back in the saddle. Gatdamn it feels good to slip back into this skin. I do this s*** for the love of the game."
There was still a bit of touch-up work to do, however, with Goggins eyebrows and lower lip still visible. His nose, meant to be a gaping hole in the finished version, is removed in post-production.
Premiering April 10 on Prime Video, Fallout is based on the video game series of the same name, a new original story set in the universe. Set in 2296, 219 years after the nuclear war of 2077 which killed off most of humanity, it explores life in a chaotic, unpredictable, seriously messed up North American wasteland.
The Ghoul is one of the series' three core protagonists, alongside Lucy (Ella Purnell) and Maximus (Aaron Moten). A famous film actor before the Great War of 2077, exposure to radiation transformed him into a ghoul in the intervening years.
In Fallout, ghouls have extended lifespans and are impervious to things that would kill humans, like losing a limb or eating rotten flesh. The cost of that is mutating into a walking corpse, the sight of which is enough to send people scurrying.
We last saw the Ghoul making his way to Las Vegas, or what remains of it after all these years, suggesting Fallout season 2 will tie into the events of the critically acclaimed 2010 video game Fallout: New Vegas.
Purnell is certainly doing the research, writing on BlueSky, "I've been told to play fallout new vegas. Since I do love some source materials and this may or may not be prep for a certain job I may or may not be on soon."
Fallout season 2 is expected to release on Prime Video in 2026.
