Watch as Corgi Slowly Steals Heart of Mailman After Moving to Small Town

A corgi who stole the mailman's heart has delighted internet viewers with their adorable friendship.

Ever since moving to her new home in a small town, dog owner Lydia, 30, from Wisconsin, has been documenting the precious bond between her pup, Opal, and the mailman. The 2-year-old corgi can often be quite timid with people, but there is nobody she would rather see than her favorite person.

Whenever the mailman stops by, he always makes sure to fuss Opal and give her plenty of attention, even if he doesn't have anything to deliver. Lydia told Newsweek that they are "the highlight of each other's day," and she is so grateful that the mailman takes the time to show her pet such love and kindness.

"Opal was a pretty timid puppy at first, but when she realized there was a person who stopped by every day, in her eyes just to say hi to her, that's really when their friendship formed," Lydia said.

She continued: "She jumps at the fence out of joy, and I've caught him smiling and laughing as he spots her when he's coming up the street. I think I know his schedule better than he does, because, like clockwork, she will jump at the door when she knows he's going to walk by. When he's running late, she gets very frustrated."

Over the holidays, the mailman even delivered a handwritten card to Lydia and Opal and added a toy for his "favorite dog," too. It was such a touching gesture, and Lydia returned the favor by giving him a thank-you card, complete with a picture of the corgi playing with her new toy.

"I'm a huge baker, so I also gave him some Christmas cookies as an added thank-you. But he will probably be getting gifts for every holiday now," Lydia told Newsweek. "For him to take five minutes out of his day to show her a little kindness means the world to Opal."

Lydia started capturing their sweet interactions and shared a compilation video on TikTok (@thecorgicult). It doesn't matter if it's sunny or snowing, because Opal will always run outside to greet the mailman, and he always stops to fuss her.

The clip showing how she "stole the mailman's heart" has delighted internet users, and the video went viral with over 608,100 views and more than 125,200 likes on TikTok at the time of writing.

Since sharing the clip online, Lydia has been amazed by the online response. She has been inundated with support from people around the world who can't get enough of the corgi and the mailman's friendship.

Lydia said: "The amount of support that people have given as a result of this video, after going through two years of heartbreak and anxiety, means the absolute world to me. The reaction is more than I could have ever hoped for; it's been truly incredible."

Indeed, plenty of TikTok users praised the duo's adorable bond, leading to almost 800 comments on the viral post so far.

One comment reads: "Omg [oh my God] this is like a movie. I'll just sit here in my apt [apartment] with my dog and no yard."

Another TikTok user wrote: "They knew each other in another life."

A third person joked: "Kinda looks like the mailman stole your dog's heart."
