Waterfield launches new travel case tailor made for your M4 Mac Mini

Waterfield Designs, one of my favorite leather goods and bespoke accessories companies, has just released its Shield Case for the M4 Mac Mini. I wrote an article last month about how I turned my Mac Mini into a portable computer, and although I could do that successfully, this new Mac Mini case takes it to a whole new level. This case was made purely for the M4 Mac Mini with protection and accessories in mind. Here is everything you need to know.

From the moment the M4 Mac Mini redesign was revealed, my mind raced with ideas for using it as a portable computer. It was small, light, powerful, and well-priced. I knew I wouldn’t be the only one wanting this. The new Mac Mini is much smaller than earlier versions, but its height makes it awkward for a traditional bag. Therefore, having the new Mac Mini Shield case to house it is essential.

Since the Mac Mini is somewhat of a unique shape, Waterfield had to account for that shape, as well as the fact that you will always need a power cable.

• Durable foam padding: Firm foam on all sides protects against impact and prevents compression.
• Scratch-free lining: Soft fleece interior keeps your Mac mini protected from scratches.
• Power cord pocket: A dedicated plush pocket stores the Mac mini power cord securely.
• Waterproof zipper: The YKK zipper opens on three sides and has lockable dual zipper pulls (lock not included).
• Zipper guard: A cushioned barrier prevents the zipper from scratching the Mac mini.
• Extra storage: The padded front pocket is said to hold small items like cords and SD cards and even features an AirTag slot.
• Rear mesh pocket: Provides additional space for extra peripherals.
• Quick grab loop: Top nylon loop for easy carry or attachment to other bags with a carabiner.

They have literally thought of everything when it comes to protecting and caring for the M4 Mac Mini inside this case. From the soft lining to avoid any scratching to the foam padding for drop protection and even some water resistance.

Pricing & availability

The new Shield case is available for pre-order today for $99 from Waterfields website. Shipping starts on January 21st. It comes in two different colorway options: Brown waxed canvas with distressed, chocolate, full-grain leather or Black ballistic nylon with black, full-grain leather (it’s a mouthful). I am very excited to get my hands on this case. I have already brought my Mac Mini to coworking spaces and coffee shops and paired it with my espresso display, and it’s a perfect match. It all fits in my Waterfield backpack, so adding this shield case adds another level of portability and protection.
