Wayne Northrop, the veteran television actor best known for his memorable roles on the soap opera Days of Our Lives, has passed away at the age of 77. His publicist, Cynthia Snyder, confirmed the news, revealing that Northrop died at the Motion Picture and Television Home in Woodland Hills, a facility dedicated to members of the entertainment industry.

Northrop had been battling Alzheimer's disease for the past six years, a condition that necessitated his move to assisted living care.

"Wayne was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's six years ago. He took his last breath in the arms of his family," said Wayne's wife, actress Lynn Herring Northrop, according to Deadline.

"We wish to thank the most caring and amazing place, The Motion Picture and Television Home for taking such great care of him. Wayne touched so many people with his sense of humor and wit. A husband for 43 years, the best dad ever to his two boys, Hank and Grady, and a rancher who loved his cows and was a friend to many."

In a heartfelt statement, his wife, Lynn Herring Northrop, shared that he passed away surrounded by family. She also expressed gratitude to the Motion Picture and Television Home for their compassionate care during his final years.

A career built on iconic roles

Northrop's acting journey began in the late 1970s with guest appearances in popular television series such as Baretta and The Waltons.

His big break came in 1981 with a recurring role in the hit series Dynasty, where he portrayed Michael Culhane, the chauffeur to Blake Carrington, played by John Forsythe. Northrop appeared in 35 episodes of the iconic show.

However, it was his work on Days of Our Lives that truly cemented his legacy. Over a span of decades, he played two characters-Roman Brady and Dr. Alex North-earning credits for a staggering 1,036 episodes between 1981 and 2006. His performance captivated audiences and made him a household name in daytime television.

Beyond Days of Our Lives, Northrop's credits included appearances in Port Charles, The Young Riders, L.A. Law, Hotel and Cold Case.
