The topmost layer is a GOTS Certified organic cotton cover that wicks away moisture and allows for maximum breathability. It’s followed by a GOTS Certified organic wool layer which has similar properties to keep you cool and dry. These are key materials to look for when buying an organic mattress. A GOTS Certified organic cotton panel below that prevents the wool from shifting and bunching.

This mattress comes in three different heights — 9", 10" and 12". If you order it with a height of 9" or 10" your bed will have two main layers: a natural latex comfort layer and a GOLS Certified organic latex support core. Both layers provide support and comfort, as well as pressure relief in your joints and lower back pain relief. The support core is designed to assist with your mattress’ durability.

Those who order a 12" version of this mattress will have an additional GOLS Certified organic latex comfort layer between the natural latex comfort layer and the support core. Like the other two layers, it’s meant to provide support and comfort. It should also be noted that the latex layers are perforated, which contributes to airflow and breathability.

As well as selecting the height of your choice, you can also choose between medium (which PlushBeds indicate is better for side sleepers) and medium-firm feel (recommended by the brand for back and stomach sleepers), and the firmness of the latex layers will be adjusted to which of the two options you choose.

There are no pesticides, chemicals, fertilizers, adhesives, fillers, dyes, or toxins in The Botanical Bliss. On top of the cotton, wool, and latex being GOLS or GOTS certified, this mattress is GreenGuard Gold Certified, eco-INSTITUT Certified, and Control Union Certified. These mattress certifications are essential for you to know the mattress' impact on the environment.

While PlushBeds rates medium as being 5.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, and the medium-firm as a 8 out of 10 on the firmness scale, our reviewer disagrees.

Taking into account her wide range of experience in testing mattresses, she’d rate the medium-firm option (which she tested) as being no more than a 7 on the firmness scale. A score of 8 out of ten is typically considered firm rather than medium-firm.

As someone who sometimes experiences lower back pain and is a combination sleeper, the medium-firm mattress was an ideal choice for our reviewer. In fact, she was able to sleep comfortably on her back, side, and stomach.

When lying on her back and stomach, the mattress supported her body weight of 175 lbs and kept her spine aligned, relieving her lower back pain and/or any sores and aches from injuries or exercise. Like the best mattresses for back pain, the surface is soft and cozy, her body didn't dip into the mattress when lying on her back or stomach. Yet, when lying on her side, our tester reported that her hips are able to dip just enough into the mattress so that her neck and spine were perfectly aligned.

Overall, the surface is supportive and soft, providing a cloud-like feel that cradles the entire body, which resulted in deep sleep for our tester night after night. Though the medium-firm option should be supportive of people with varying body weights, there are a few reviews that suggest that those who are larger in size might better enjoy a 12" height for this mattress versus the 9" or 10" options. Otherwise, consider investing in one of the best mattresses for heavy people.

PlushBeds Botanical Bliss Organic Latex mattress: Performance

Using our mattress methodology, we were able to test the mattress’ motion isolation, comfort, set up, temperature regulation, and edge support to provide an in-depth, hands-on review.

Edge support

Edge support is important for a variety of reasons. Not only does it maintain the structure of a mattress, but it can provide stability when you get in and out of bed and increases the sleep surface, which is especially important to couples. Unfortunately, this PlushBeds mattress is lacking in terms of edge support.

When our tester sat on the sides and foot of the mattress, she noticeably sunk. However, the edge support was slightly better along the corners. When laying near the edge of the mattress, she did not feel the mattress dip or have any concern she might fall off the bed.

To measure the edge support, we placed a 15 lbs. dumbbell on the edges, where it sunk about an inch and threatened to roll off. This is about half an inch more sinkage than when we placed the weight in the center of the mattress.

In our experience with testing organic latex mattresses, this kind of edge support is not surprising. The edges are not usually reinforced, unless it’s one of the best hybrid mattresses.

Motion isolation

Many things can wake a person from a deep sleep, but the biggest contenders are probably a fidgety partner or children and pets who like to jump into bed in the middle of the night. The PlushBeds Botanical Bliss Organic Latex Mattress does a great job with motion isolation, which means it limits the amount of movement someone might feel when sleeping on the mattress.

Although our reviewer typically sleeps alone in the mattress, in the past, she’s had to share her bed with visiting friends, family members, and partners. As someone who is a very light sleeper, she was very impressed with how little she was awoken in the middle of the night when another person moved or got in and out of bed.

To verify her personal experience, she ran a test which included placing a wine glass in the center of the mattress and dropping a 15 lbs. weight 4", 10", and 25" away. No matter the drop distance, the wine glass stayed upright.

In considering our tester’s personal experience and the wine glass test, we’re confident in saying that this mattress stands out in terms of motion isolation.

Temperature regulation

When it comes to temperature regulation, you’d do well to go with an organic latex mattress like the PlushBeds Botanical Bliss Organic Latex Mattress. Our tester has found it to be considerably breathable.

This is no surprise as organic latex mattresses are known for creating a temperature neutral sleep environment. You won’t feel cool or cold when sleeping on this mattress, but you won’t be hot either — resulting in a phenomenal sleep.

For reference, our reviewer slept on this mattress year-round under a thick comforter, with light and thick sleepwear, depending on the season. She lives in Texas, where summers can get into the 100s and winter lows in the 20s. No matter the weather, her indoor heating and air-conditioning systems are never set higher than 63 degrees in the winter or lower than 76 degrees in the summer.

Occasionally, she may turn the fan on in the summer. Considering all of this, it’s impressive that she does not wake up hot or sweating when sleeping on the PlushBeds Botanical Bliss Organic Latex Mattress. It does a great job at wicking away moisture and heat during the night no matter the time of year. However, If you experience hot sweats, it might be worth choosing one of this year's best cooling mattresses.

Set up

PlushBeds delivers the Botanical Bliss Organic Latex Mattress for free to your door in a cardboard box. In-home set up is available for an additional fee of up to $299 (at the time of writing). Since organic latex is heavier, and our reviewer tested a king-size mattress, PlushBeds delivered the mattress to her in two boxes. One of the boxes held the mattress base while a smaller box contained the latex layer.

If you receive one box, place the mattress on top of your bed frame and then remove the plastic wrapping. Otherwise, you’ll likely need a second person to move it onto the frame later on. Even though there are handles, it can be a little difficult.

If you receive two boxes, place the base on top of your bed frame and then you’ll need to unwrap the smaller latex layer package, before sliding it into the zippered cover.

Don’t forget to save your packaging materials. If you need to return the mattress within the 100-night trial, you’ll need the box and plastic wrapping to repackage the mattress and receive a full refund. At the time of writing, this particular mattress has over 4,400 reviews on the brand's website, which can be searched by keyword, star rating, and with media.

Positive reviews discuss the comfort of this mattress, with many buyers pointing out how it alleviated their back pain and conditions that cause pain in different areas of their body. They especially like how supportive the mattress is while remaining comfortable enough to sleep on their back, stomach, and sides. Others point out how they don’t overheat at night and the incredible benefits of sleeping on an organic mattress, including alleviating allergies caused by non-organic mattresses.

Currently there are only five reviews that are three-stars or lower. The only negative feedback seems to be from those who wish they had ordered the mattress with a 12" height rather than 9" or 10".
