What Golden Retriever Does With Dad's Clothes Every Morning Warms Hearts

A dog owner from Wisconsin filmed the sweet gesture her golden retriever makes every morning to show how much she loves her dad, and internet users can't cope with it.

In a post shared on TikTok in December, under the username @becky_sew, the pup, Mabel, can be seen walking into the living room holding one of her dad's shirts in her mouth, before placing in on the floor and lying down on it, so she can feel close to him.

"Every morning my 6-year-old golden, Mabel, goes downstairs to get one of my husband's articles of clothing to sleep on for the day," reads layover text in the clip, as the poster calls her a good girl, encouraging the heartwarming behavior.

"My heart can't handle the sweetness of this dog. She does this every morning. My husband will leave something out for her to grab," says the caption.

While dogs do rely on us for food and shelter, science has proof that they also love us just as much as we love them.

The American Kennel Club explains that pups do feel a certain way about us, quoting a scientific study which found that when dogs smell their owners, or the people they love the most, an area of their brain known as the "reward center" activates.

They also experience higher levels of oxytocin, also known as the love hormone, when their humans are nearby.

Most dogs also have a favorite person, which is not always their owner or main caregiver. Newsweek previously asked vets what makes dogs choose one person over another and the answer is not surprising.

Your pup's bond with you is influenced by a number of factors, including the amount of time spent together, the care provided, and the overall relationship built over time.

Signs you're their favorite include tail wagging when they see you, seeking any excuse to be around you, being affectionate and relaxed around you, rubbing their face on you, and keeping eye contact.

The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 1.2 million views and 117,400 likes on the platform.

One user, lindad1, commented: "After we lost my husband, my girl would sleep on his pillow every night. She's with him now. I miss them both so much."

Kendra Cramer said: "My son is away at college. My golden brings me something every day from his room."

Mysteriouslyfun1 added: "This is such an act of love. Our smell means everything to them. They are highly affectionate and this makes them feel close to you."

Newsweek reached out to @becky_sew for comment via TikTok comments. We could not verify the details of the case.
