What Kitten Two Hours After Being Born Has Owner Asking 'Is It Normal?'

1 month ago 5

A video of a kitten actively moving just two hours after being born left the owner wondering whether or not it was normal.

TikTok user @sydney.carpentier set up a protective nesting area for a pregnant cat to be comfortable while she gave birth to her kittens. Sydney stayed by the cat's side during the whole process and afterward, making sure they were all safe and healthy. She kept a close eye after the babies were born but kept her distance to give the mother, Olive, time to groom, nuzzle and nurse her babies.

But by hour two, she noticed one kitten doing something that caused concern. The kitten went to the edge of the nesting area, reaching its front paws up against the mesh wall and attempting to climb. It's not too often, if ever, you see a 2-hour-old kitty doing that, prompting Sydney to ask in the video: "Is this normal for kittens to be this active?"

Even Olive looked confused as she tried using her head to bring the kitten down. But that didn't work. Knowing what a pawful her kitty was about to be, Olive turned and looked at Sydney as if to say, "Oh, here we go."

The caption reads: "Olive looking at the camera like she's in the office sends me."

Newborns don't typically try a great escape on day one. Instead, they usually spend the majority of the day sleeping, PetMD says. While they aren't walking or defending themselves yet, they can still move around by crawling. If handled, they might wiggle and meow.

TikTok users flooded the comment section with input on this unusual behavior, amassing more than 311,200 views, 38,800 likes and 339 comments as of Friday.

Some people warned, based on their experiences, it might get a little more chaotic: "Oh good luck. My cat had a litter of kittens and some of them came out already trying to speed walk around and they turned out rambunctious."

Another added: "You're in for a roller coaster TRUSTTTT."

A third person said: "Typically kittens only squirm around to find their mother. But outright crawling and climbing..? Girl's life is a speed run."

Newsweek reached out to @sydney.carpentier via TikTok for additional comment.
