WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow users to check the authenticity of any image shared on the platform. The Search on Web functionality has made an appearance in the Android 2.24.23.13 update, as shared in a report by WABetaInfo.

As for the working, the feature will work pretty similarly to Google’s reverse image search feature. The Search on Web feature will help you get the details related to the contextual information related to a person a product or anything that is included in the picture. Speculations are that the feature will be brought to the stable version of the platform pretty soon.

A recent report based on WhatsApp stats suggested that around 7 billion images are shared on WhatsApp on a daily basis. And at the times when AI and fake images are ruling all over the internet, it is almost impossible to find the authenticity of the same without appropriate resources. Here, the Search on Web WhatsApp feature will change the game.

The feature will be integrated within the base app of WhatsApp and the users will be able to directly share an image with it to check it on Google Search. And to not hurt the privacy of the users, WhatsApp will be sharing the encrypted images directly with Google as they cannot be processed or shared by WhatsApp. As for the access feature, users can simply activate it by tapping on any shared image in full size and then visiting the three-dot menu.
