When Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell got together, he offered to adopt her two children - they said 'no'

Goldie Hawn's son Oliver Hudson has explained why he and his sister Kate Hudson declined Kurt Russell's offer to adopt them.

Goldie welcomed Oliver and Kate into the world with her ex-partner Bill Hudson, to whom she was married from 1976 to 1982.

Now, Hawn has been in a relationship with Kurt since 1983.

Kurt stepped in as a father figure when the siblings were quite young and offered to adopt them amid Hudson's absence, but the youngsters declined.

One of Hollywood’s longest running couples, Goldie and Kurt have spent many an awards season on the carpet together, including their first stint in 1991.  We want to be friends with these two!Kurt Russell stepped in as a father figure for Goldie Hawn's children, Kate and Oliver Hudson.

Speaking on a recent episode of his and Kate's Sibling Revelry podcast, Oliver, 48, spoke with Miley Cyrus' mother Tish Cyrus-Purcell and her half sister Brandi Cyrus recalled his experience.

"Kurt came into my life when I was six, five or six and essentially he raised me. I'm the man I am today because of him, right?" Oliver explained on the podcast.

"There was a moment when he asked us, myself and Kate, if we wanted to be adopted, and we said 'no.'"

Her mum is one of the most famous faces in the world

"Not that we were, you know, very aware of probably what it even f---ing meant," he continued.

"We were six and 12 or however, I don't remember the age, but we just said, 'Well, we don't need it. The love is right there.'"

The conversation came up as Oliver asked Brandi about her experience of being adopted by Billy Rae Cyrus.

"I only say this because my dad, he was around for a little bit, then he bailed. We have a good relationship now, but it took a long, long, long, long time [to get there]," he said about his biological father Bill Hudson.

While his relationship with his biological father has been fraught, his relationship with Kurt has been consistent.

However, he admits it wasn't the same as being raised by a biological father.

"At the same time, when you don't have your biological [parent] around, it's hard to replace that, not matter what," he explained.

"The love was there with Kurt, there's not doubt that he is my dad. I call him 'Pa.' But there was always – not something missing, but there's that other side."
