2 months ago 3

In only one week, Yellowstone, will make its hotly anticipated return with the second part of its fifth and final season.

The Western drama, created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson, premiered in 2018 on the Paramount+ streaming service and quickly became a major hit.

Yellowstone will be back on the small screen for its final episodes on November 10.

After marquee star, Kevin Costner, left the series Sheridan and other producers decided the fifth season would be its last. The show's unexepected conclusion was announced in May 2023 after rumors of trouble between Costner and Sheridan. The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes also delayed the return to filming of the second half of season five.

Part one of the season aired from November 2022 to January 2023, and people have been eagerly awaiting for the second half to premiere on Paramount+.

Yellowstone follows the Montana-based Dutton family, whose patriarch, John Dutton (Costner), controls the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the U.S. The TV series tells the saga of them trying to defend their land and business against constant threats.

Costner will not appear in the show's final episodes, but the returning cast includes Cole Hauser (Rip Wheeler), Kelly Reilly (Beth Dutton), Luke Grimes (Kayce Dutton), Wes Bentley (Jamie Dutton), Kelsey Asbille (Monica Dutton) and Gil Birmingham (Thomas Rainwater).

Grimes teased what viewers can expect from Yellowstone's final outing.

"I think true to Yellowstone's form, [viewers] won't be able to see it coming. I feel like that's the kind of beauty of Taylor's writing and it's always so surprising. It's never what you thought it was going to be," he told Newsweek in October.

"But I think everyone will be really satisfied.... If I would have tried to come up with an ending, I never would have come up with this one, but it's the perfect one. Because I'm clearly not a writer and even if I was, it would not be as good as Taylor['s].

What Happened In Part One?

The first part of season five saw John Dutton become governor of Montana and use his political power to protect the family's ranch from corporate and environmental threats. But things got tense in the family when his son, Jamie, called for his father's impeachment.

Unbeknownst to Jamie, his sister Beth Dutton found out about his scheme and began plotting against him. Using with the knowledge of Jamie's role in the murder of his biological father, Garrett Randall (Will Patton), Beth hinted at using this information to destroy him. Meanwhile, their other brother Kayce, was dealing with his own personal struggles away from the family and the ranch.

Part one of season five ended with all of the personal and political conflicts hanging in the balance and will lead to a satisfying conclusion for fans, according to Grimes.

"I think it'll just be very satisfying because...that's what you want. And the ending of a great show is something unpredictable and satisfying," he said in October.
