Skeleton Crew has been inspired by beloved 80s films like The Goonies and E.T.

The latest instalment in the Star Wars franchise is almost here, as Skeleton Crew is set to land in the UK. Streaming in December, the sci-fi adventure is the latest live-action series set between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, following the likes of The Mandalorian and Ahsoka.

It takes place in Star Wars’ New Republic Era and follows a group of children searching for their home planet after they get lost on a dangerous, planet-hopping adventure. The eight-part series is inspired by Amblin Entertainment’s coming-of-age films from the 1980s, including The Goonies and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.

Its official synopsis reads: “Skeleton Crew follows the journey of four kids who make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet, then get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Finding their way home – and meeting unlikely allies and enemies – will be a greater adventure than they ever imagined.”

Skeleton Crew has been created by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford, the duo best-known for helming Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. It sees Jude Law make his first foray into the Star Wars universe as a force-user called Jod Na Nawood – who may or may not be a Jedi.

He stars alongside a handful of child actors portraying Skeleton Crew’s adventurous youngsters, alongside Tunde Adebimpe and Kerry Condon, with Nick Frost lending his voice to the droid SM-33. There’s also some big names in the directors chair throughout the series, with Watts, Bryce Dallas Howard and the ‘Daniels’ – the Oscar-winning filmmakers behind Everything Everywhere All at Once – helming select episodes.

Here’s when Skeleton Crew is released and how to watch it in the UK.
