Dottie Perkins Potts has had some tragic setbacks in her life after appearing on season 4 of My 600-Lb. Life in 2016. Fans want to know what she’s doing today.
What Happened to Dottie Perkins on ‘My 600-Lb. Life’?
Dottie already weighed more than 300 pounds by the age of 18, after saying she turned to food after not getting enough affection from her family growing up.
“At one point I was putting on a couple of pounds a week,” she said in a confessional on My 600-Lb. Life. “I remember just eating and eating and eating so much. And I’ve just never been able to stop.”
As a result, Dottie weighed 641 pounds by the time she appeared on the TLC show. She was also dealing with the tragic loss of her 13-year-old son, Daniel, who had been diagnosed with cerebral palsy and scoliosis, turning to food for “comfort.”
Dottie needed several hospitalizations to monitor her diet, but she eventually got her weight down to below 300 pounds for the first time since her teenage years.
Dottie Perkins Is Married
After appearing on My 600-Lb. Life, Dottie went on to marry husband Chris Potts. She goes by her married name, Dottie Potts, on Facebook.
Dottie Perkins Sued My 600-Lb. Life’s Production Company
Dottie accused producers of lying to her about how her weight loss progressed, making it appear she was gaining weight while she was losing pounds instead while on the show. She also claimed she was lied to by producers about medical expense coverage, Starcasm reported in March 2020. The lawsuit was later thrown out by the Corpus Christi Court of Appeals in 2022.
Dottie Perkins Has Fallen on Hard Times
The Oxford, Mississippi, resident revealed how times were tough for her and Chris, as well as son Landon, in a September 12, 2024, Facebook post.
“What’s on my mind? I’m so tired of struggling. What I’m going to feed Landon tonight. What are we going to eat. We can’t even keep basic staples in our house. We have been denied food stamps, only missing the mark by dollars. I’m just asking for a little help,” she wrote, while including her Cash App and PayPal information.
It was Dottie’s first post in a year, as she told fans she was struggling via messages in July and September 2023.
In the first, she told followers, “I never like asking for help. It’s really embarrassing to me but because Landon is involved, I have no choice. We struggle every month but because school starts soon things are different. Landon needs clothes for school,” while providing her Cash App and PayPal information.
In Dottie’s second post, she wrote, “I don’t know where to begin … We have very few groceries. It absolutely breaks my heart because Landon came to me crying that he is hungry, and we can’t feed him. He does struggle with ADHD and Autism. He likes to eat a eat ALOT. It’s hard to see your child beg and cry because he is hungry.”
Dottie Perkins Struggled With Health Issues After ‘My 600-Lb Life’
In the same September 12, 2023, Facebook post, Dottie revealed how she’d become ill and her husband was having to care for her. “Chris hasn’t been able to work all day, every day for quite a while for unforeseen reasons, which he has to come home and take care of me,” she explained. “See folks, since developing COVID in 2021, to make a long story short, I lost my ability to walk and I’m now bedbound with Distal Heart Failure, low blood pressure and a list of other things including this UTI. I’m praying it doesn’t send me to the hospital like all the other ones.”
Dottie asked fans for prayers as well as help with purchasing groceries. She told followers, “Please if you can find it in your heart to help it would be greatly appreciated. I’m sorry we keep having to ask but we are trying. My cash app and email are below. I don’t know what else to do. If you are not able to help please just pray for us.”
