Congressman Al Green, a Democrat from Texas, on Wednesday said he will bring articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump over the alleged threat of "ethnic cleansing in Gaza."

What To Know

Representative Green has served in Congress since 2005, representing Texas's 9th congressional district. A former civil rights attorney and NAACP leader, he has focused on social justice, economic equity and affordable housing, according to his congressional website.

During his tenure, he has used his position to challenge policies he views as harmful to marginalized communities and has, more than once, called for Trump's impeachment.

When Did Al Green Bring Articles of Impeachment Against Donald Trump?

Al Green has been a leader in the impeachment efforts against Trump since 2017. He was one of the first members of Congress to introduce articles of impeachment during Trump's first administration, citing obstruction of justice in connection with Trump's firing of former FBI Director James Comey.

Green later introduced additional impeachment resolutions, arguing that Trump's rhetoric and actions—such as his response to white supremacist violence in Charlottesville and his immigration policies—constituted impeachable offenses.

On Wednesday, Green announced plans to introduce new articles of impeachment while speaking on the House floor.

"The movement to impeach the president has begun. I rise to announce that I will bring Articles of Impeachment against the president for dastardly deeds proposed and dastardly deeds done," Green said.

"Ethnic cleansing in Gaza is not a joke, especially when it emanates from the President of the United States, the most powerful person in the world," Green added. "The prime minister of Israel should be ashamed, knowing the history of his people, to stand there and allow such things to be said."

Which Committees Does Al Green Serve On?

Green serves on the House Financial Services Committee, which oversees banking, economic policy and housing regulations.

He is also the ranking member of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, where he has worked on corporate accountability and consumer protection efforts. His committee assignments align with his advocacy for financial fairness and closing economic disparities.
