Rachel LaMont has put herself in a powerful position on season 47 of Survivor. With an immunity idol and advantage in her pocket, she’s also in the majority alliance with the rest of the season’s “underdogs” heading into the final 7.
What Is ‘Survivor’ Star Rachel LaMont’s Job?
Rachel is a user interface designer. What exactly does that entail? As she explained to Parade, “I basically make apps that you interact with look pretty. So I design what they look like and the colors and all of that good stuff.”
Where Is Survivor’s Rachel LaMont From?
Although Rachel now lives in Michigan, she was born in Bangkok, Thailand.
“I didn’t speak Thai growing up,” she told Parade. “We moved to the U.S. for my mom’s job from when I was 7. So, for the first seven years of my life, I couldn’t speak to my own grandfather. He didn’t speak English and I didn’t speak Thai or Chinese.”
Then, when she moved to the States, Rachel had to learn to adapt to a new culture. “I feel like I just was forced to kind of learn to assimilate in my own way from a really young age,” she admitted.
Rachel LaMont Was Previously a ‘Survivor’ Alternate
Before she was cast on season 47 of Survivor, Rachel flew all the way to Fiji before filming of season 46. However, once she got there, she found out she was an alternate and wouldn’t actually be playing the game.
Unlike a lot of players who have been fans of the game for years, Rachel randomly stumbled upon Survivor when her husband put it on TV while they were cleaning the house one day. “I just remember setting the vacuum down and sitting down on the couch and being like, ‘How the hell have I never seen the show before?!’ I was so hooked,” she told Parade.
Rachel said she submitted her first audition video a few months later and received calls before getting “ghosted” over the years. It wasn’t until 2020 that she started really getting her foot in the door. “COVID happened, all this stuff,” she continued. “Then, two years ago, I was pitched, and then they kind of went silent. Then, last year, I got through everything and ended up being the alternate. So I came out here on Survivor 46 as the female alternate and didn’t get to play.”
Who Is Survivor’s Rachel LaMont’s Husband?
Rachel is married to Derek LaMont and they have two pets together.
“I’m honestly just so proud of the life my husband Derek and I have built together,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “So many incredible friends and family loving and supporting us, good jobs, traveling adventures, a home with our dog Eva and cat Maeby. I just couldn’t ask for more and that makes me so damn proud.”
Derek works as a senior art director at the marketing agency MRM, according to his LinkedIn.
“I’m weird and I’m quirky and just a little neurotic and a little too much at times. And I think my husband Derek is the absolute foil to my personality,” she told Gold Derby. “We just really balance each other out.”
