Who is Virgin River's Callum Kerr - Meet Scots actor set to star in Netflix prequel

5 hours ago 7

Scottish actor Callum Kerr has landed a leading role in the upcoming Virgin River prequel series.

He first appeared in the Netflix hit during season six, portraying a younger Everett Reid in 1970s flashback scenes. These flashbacks explored the relationship between Mel Monroe’s parents, Everett and Sarah, laying the groundwork for the new prequel.

Callum stars alongside Jessica Rothe (Sarah), with Virgin River showrunner Patrick Sean Smith praising their strong chemistry. Their on-screen connection sparked discussions about a possible prequel, ultimately leading to Netflix giving it the green light.

Speaking to Variety, Patrick stated: "It was a search. It was always the plan that this could potentially be a back-door pilot, introducing this new timeline, so we cast with that in mind.

"We did chemistry reads with them and a couple of other actors who were really incredible. But Jess and Callum had such a spark together, such a fire together that it felt like we had hit gold in casting them."

But who is Callum Kerr?

The actor had his break out roll in the soap opera Hollyoaks

Callum, originally from Edinburgh, decided to try his hand at acting after working in a law firm. After he moved to London to pursue an acting career he trained in musical theatre, he began modelling and stared in music videos.

Notably he started in Robbie Williams music video for "Mixed Signals" in 2017.

He gained fame after securing a role as PC George Kiss in the soap opera Hollyoaks in 2019, though he left the show in 2021 when his character was killed off.

He later went on to star in Flowers in the Attic: The Origin in 2022, a prequel series to the 2014 Flowers in the Attic. During the show he played Christopher Foxworth. During the same year he played Wade Stellings in the musical drama Monarch.

The actor has also ventured into the world of music and after performing on the Nashville country music scene for six months, he released his first single "Tequila Therapy" in 2023.

Tragedy

Callum's mum and step father - Dawn and Andrew Searle - who were in their 60s - were found dead by a neighbour in their home in South West France on February 6.

Earlier this month, he released a statement through social media stating: "At this time, Callum Kerr, Amanda Kerr, Tom Searle and Ella Searle are grieving the tragic loss of their mother and father, Dawn and Andrew Searle.
