BBC SPORT presenter Mark Chapman sadly lost his wife Sara in 2020.
Here we take a look back at the life of the Match of the Day star’s beloved wife.
Sara was the wife of sports pundit Mark Chapman.
They married in 2001 and had three children together.
Mark is a very private person but previously said of his family: “I know my family are very proud of me but I don’t look at what I do as being anything particularly special.
“I’ve got a great job and it’s so much fun but I don’t go in for any of that celebrity-nonsense. I’d much prefer a pint at The Railway any day.”
Sad death
Sara passed away on June 3, 2020 after battling cancer.
A source told The Sun: “Sadly Sara passed away on June 3.
"Mark and the kids are absolutely devastated.
“The family was there and it’s just a really sad situation.
"They’re an extremely private family and would appreciate people respecting that.”
Sara was just 44.
Mark, known as Chappers, hosts Match Of The Day 2 on BBC2 and is often seen on Final Score.
He also presents the Saturday afternoon football show on 5Live, 606, as well as the discussion programme The Monday Night Club on the same station.
He has been at the Beeb since 1996 and lives in Hale, Greater Manchester.
Mark made his name as the sports presenter for Radio 1’s Newsbeat and was part of Sara Cox’s team when she hosted the station’s Breakfast Show.
He later performed the same role for Scott Mills before becoming a fixture at 5 Live and BBC television, where he also fronted the corporation’s NFL coverage before it moved to Channel 4.
