Did someone order a Whoopi pie or a humble pie?

Whoopi Goldberg speculated Holtermann’s Bakery on Staten Island refused to serve her over her political views, but the business’s owner shut down the claim.

Goldberg and her “The View” co-hosts enjoyed Charlotte Russe cakes while celebrating the actress’s 69th birthday in Wednesday’s episode.

“My birthday dessert today was one of my mom’s favorites from when she was a kid. She talked about these all the time. They’re called Charlotte Russe,” she told the studio audience. “It’s a sponge cake with whipped cream and a cherry on top.”

The “Sister Act” star explained that she had inquired about ordering the confection from a bakery she did not name.

“Now, I should tell you, Charlotte Russe has no political leanings, and the place that made these refused to make them for me,” she claimed.

“They said that their ovens had gone down, all kinds of stuff, but folks went and got them anyway, which is why I’m not telling you who made them.”

Goldberg surmised that she was not denied the dessert because she is a woman but “perhaps they did not like [her] politics.”

The TV personality, who was a staunch supporter of Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, did not bash the bakery but instead went on to honor her late mother.

“That’s OK because you know what? Listen, this is my mother’s celebration,” she said. “Pick these up and celebrate with me and my mom. Thank you everyone for celebrating my birthday today.”

Despite Goldberg not naming the business, Holtermann’s Bakery later identified itself to shut down the star’s claim that her order had been denied.

Owner Jill Holtermann told Entertainment Weekly that Goldberg had placed an order with her a few weeks prior when their kitchen was malfunctioning and that their inability to fulfill her request had nothing to do with her left-leaning politics.

“They’d asked us, and we were having trouble with our boilers,” Holtermann shared with the magazine.

She explained that the EGOT winner wanted to commission an order for a Nov. 6 appearance on a talk show as well as the Nov. 12 broadcast of “The View,” which she declined because she did not want to “make a commitment” that she could not “carry through.”

“I said to Whoopi, ‘I can’t do it right now. We have so many things going on with my boiler’ because the building is from 1930,'” Holtermann said, “so when she called me, I had no idea [if we could] be baking everything.”

The proprietor further explained that an unidentified woman had purchased about 50 Charlotte Russe cakes from her bakery Wednesday morning that she ended up being able to make.

Holtermann claimed she did not know the woman who procured the trifles had any affiliation with Goldberg’s show.
