Muhammad Ali fought Joe Frazier, Mike Tyson squared off against Evander Holyfield, and now... Conor McGregor versus Logan Paul? Think again — this is one spectacle you likely won't be seeing anytime soon.
When rumors of a blockbuster boxing match between McGregor, 36, and Paul, 29, began circulating, it seemed like another headline ready to break the internet. But Dana White put a full stop to that possibility.
On Wednesday, January 15, the 55-year-old UFC president shut down the idea during an interview on Pardon My Take. When asked if McGregor would step into the boxing ring with the influencer, White responded with one word: "No."
So, why did fans think this fight was even a possibility?
Last month, the Irish mixed martial artist took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, "The rumors of a bout with [Ilia] Topuria are false. I am in preliminary agreements with the Ambani family to face Logan Paul in a boxing exhibition in India. I have agreed. I will then seek my return to the Octagon."
The post set the internet ablaze with mixed reactions.
"Conor just casually dropping major fight news on a random Tuesday morning 😂😂😂" one person wrote.
"Conor you need a win. But not that badly," another pointed out.
"The best man to put an end to the Paul Brothers once and for all!! THEY'll DO NOTHING!!!" chimed in a third.
"The Paul brothers have ruined combat sports. Thats the big fight now fighters pursue.. 🤦♂️ Get KOed by the paul bothers at the end of their careers for a check. So tried of this," someone else wrote.
In response to McGregor's post, Logan's brother, Jake Paul, took to his own X account to clarify the situation.
"Now it all makes sense why Conor Mcgregor & his management team have been desperately trying to get MVP to negotiate for a fight between us.," he wrote. "As we told them them privately & I'm now saying it publicly...the only way we're willing to explore me vs Conor in a pro boxing / mma fight is if Dana White / UFC are at the table directly or make it clear they are ok with discussions."
Wrapping up his post, the YouTuber declared, "Conor is washed. Needs the Paul's. Logan by however he wants."
McGregor's contract with the UFC is seemingly the main roadblock for a fight with Logan. According to Forbes, the former featherweight champion still has two fights left on his UFC deal, meaning any bout outside the Octagon requires White's approval — and for now, the Power Slap owner is saying, "No."
