Playing a Bond girl in a movie and living life like a Bond girl are two different things. Denise Richards found this out after she signed up for Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test. The former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star was looking to push herself out of her Malibu comfort zone and really test her grit. She also learned a valuable lesson along the way.
Denise Richards wanted special treatment
As a Hollywood actress, I understand why Denise would have wanted a sense of normalcy while participating in Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test. But that isn’t how the military works. No one is better than anyone else, and your outside credibility doesn’t matter to the drill sergeants who are trying to train you for battle. I knew the moment Denise was pushed aggressively off the speed boat into the cold waters of North Wales that she would struggle with the competition.
Viewers recently learned that she demanded one thing from producers before joining the hit series. She shared on a podcast she wanted a “private toilet. I got us a toilet.” As viewers know, the recruits often share porta potties but the actress was not having it. Denise noted, “They’re not porta-potties Trista, they’re outhouses!” claiming the toilets “didn’t flush or anything. So that is something I brought up when I was asked to do the show.” Denise continued, “I was like, ‘There is no freaking way, otherwise I won’t go to the bathroom for the whole time. I am not going to sit next to someone on television and go potty.’”
Denise Richards’ daughters were afraid for her well-being
Denise shared, “So it took them a couple of weeks to get back to us because that was my dealbreaker. And I’m sure they’re going to be mad I say that because next season, someone’s going to be like, ‘Well, Denise Richards got a toilet!’ But they got a toilet and hid it. But I said, ‘I am not gonna have a target on my back where it’s only my toilet, so I don’t want anyone to know.’” I can understand why a star from California would feel out of their comfort zone. Denise and the rest of her team were dropped into a cold British summer where she was expected to jump off bridges, pretend to drown herself, and tread water for half an hour.
The people most worried about Denise’s safety were her three daughters. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum told People, “My daughters were very upset. They did not want me to do it. They were afraid I was going to get hurt or get killed, and they were actually really angry. It was the first time of all the times I’ve done different projects or traveled they were very upset with me.” The show has been known for its difficulty level, and past recruits have been hurt before. Denise added, “I thought, ‘This is the most challenging thing I’ll ever do, and why not do it?’ I was terrified, but once I made the commitment to do it, I was there.”
Denise Richards surprised viewers with her honesty
The team of instructors often pulls certain recruits into their office to talk to them about their journey. The Starship Troopers star was one of the first to be called in by the DS. Denise opened up about how traumatic it was for her and her husband to be shot at after an aggressive driving incident. It opened up an old wound from her youth when she was physically assaulted. I commend the mother of three for wanting to work through her trauma and gain control of her fears. It’s not every day you see a Bravoleb wanting to better themselves. Sadly, fans watched as Denise decided to quit during the three-episode premiere.
She was the second recruit to voluntarily withdraw. Denise first hurt herself when she jumped off the bridge and repelled down to the ground. She shared with Entertainment Weekly that she had ruptured her breast implant. The injury was complicated, as she explained: “Also, with that harness on the bridge jump, because it’s around that area and then also over our chest, we thought that that was damaged too… But that’s all good. I had swelling in the area, but it went down, and I didn’t need surgery again.” Denise noted, “I still have to have surgery with my implants. I just haven’t had the downtime yet. I’m hoping to do it in a couple of weeks. Either replaced or removed, whatever I decide to do. The ones that are there have to come out.”
Hey, if nothing else – she gave it a shot and I give her props for that.
