Melania Trump made one of the most impactful entrances on Inauguration Day. The First Lady wore a navy double-breasted coat topped by a wide-brimmed hat designed by Eric Javits. The designer revealed that the hat almost didn't make it to the finished look.
In an interview with WWD, Javits revealed that the hat was shipped from Miami to DC and that it “arrived all crushed."
“It looked like it had been sitting in snow drifts for about a week,” he said.
“Obviously, I had to scramble to redo it. It couldn’t really be repaired, because of the construction of it.”
Javits revealed that, for a moment, he didn't know if his work would be included in Melania's final look. Ultimately, her designer Hervé Pierre came in person to pick up the accessory.
“He had a driver, and Hervé took it back to her by hand to minimize any other disasters that could possibly happen,” said Javits. “No other hands touched, nor did any other eyes see the hat, prior to Hervé and the first lady receiving it.”
More details about Melania's look
Melania Trump's look was designed by Adam Lippes, an American fashion designer. He spoke to WWD and shared his joy over acquiring such a large platform.
“Mrs. Trump’s outfit was created by some of America’s finest craftsmen and I take great pride in showing such work to the world," he said.
Melania's outfit was praised by many, including Kim Kardashian, who tacitly shared her support by sharing a photo of Melania's entire outfit in one of her Instagram stories.
While Kim has rarely discussed her relationship with Donald and Melania Trump, she's met the two on various occasions. She's also one of Ivanka Trump's closest friends, with the two supporting each other on social media, attending each other's birthday parties and celebrations, and more.
