Woman Delivers 'Biggest Twins' Pediatrician Has Ever Seen, Here's Why

A mom from Virginia left TikTok viewers astounded this week after sharing how much her twins weighed at birth.

Amy Bell, who has five children with her husband Zachary, posted pictures of each child in a slideshow on the platform, with details of how much they weighed. The couple's children include three sons: Aiden, 11, Wyatt, six and Logan, four, and two twin daughters: Addison and Charlotte, who turn two in February.

Logan was 9 pounds, 6 ounces, her eldest, Aiden, weighed 8 pounds, 12 ounces and Amy's second child was the heaviest at a whopping 9 pounds, 13 ounces. However the twins, Addison and Charlotte, were born at a combined weight of 16 pounds, 7 ounces.

The reason behind the large babies? Zachary stands at 6 feet 4 inches, 7 inches taller than his wife. As part of her slideshow, Amy joked that she didn't consider how big their babies would be when she married him.

She told Newsweek that her twin pregnancy was the hardest of them all: "I carried the girls successfully to 37 weeks, which I am so grateful for as many twin pregnancies come early and result in complications and/or NICU time. The hardest part was all of the 'what ifs.' Thankfully, we beat all the odds."

In general, twins tend to weigh less at birth than single babies due to the space and nutritional constraints during pregnancy. Twins with a combined weight exceeding 15 pounds are considered very large and much less common.

Amy wanted a natural delivery for her twins as many twin pregnancies result in a c-section. "I didn't want to have to be recovering from surgery while trying to care for my three other children and two newborn babies," she added.

As for the birth, Amy said it was her "favorite" because of how unexpectedly quick it was. Scheduled to be induced at 37 weeks, she arrived at the hospital already in active labor, dilated to 6cm (2.4 inches).

"I tried to get an epidural, but during that process I progressed to 10cms and the epidural never took. My first twin was born at almost 4 hours after arriving at 10:58 a.m. and the next twin was born at 11:21 a.m.," she said.

Despite the challenges, she managed to navigate her busy life at home with three boys, surprising many friends and neighbors who didn't even realize she was pregnant until the final month.

Amy's TikTok video got the internet talking and has amassed over 760,000 views. Hundreds of social media users commented on the clip, many of whom were shocked by the weight of the twins.

"The twins would've made me say cut the show I'm done," one user joked. Like Zachary, another shared how their husband is 6'4" and they have just had a baby weighing 10 pounds and seven ounces. "I'm 5 ft 100lbs," she wrote.

Amy told Newsweek that she's received many comments asking whether she's okay, which she and Zachary have found humor in. She added that their pediatrician was also surprised, mentioning that the twins were the "biggest twins" she had seen in over 30 years of practice.

"Many other twin moms have been sharing the weights of their twins in the comments of my video which has made me feel even more that maybe my twins' weights are more uncommon than I even thought," she said.
