A woman who was winding down for the evening reached for her water bottle, only to gulp down makeup remover instead.
TikToker Izzy (@izzypoc) shared footage of her mishap, which quickly amassed 503,000 likes and 5.6 million views.
"Feeling so emotionally volatile right now, was about to take off my makeup. I just drank so much micellar water," she wrote over the clip.
Micellar water is a gentle skincare solution designed for cleansing and makeup removal. It's made up of micelles—tiny oil molecules suspended in soft water—that help remove dirt and oils from the skin. It's definitely not meant for drinking.
In the video, Izzy flips her camera to reveal how the mix-up occurred: while relaxing in bed, she had both a water bottle and a bottle of cleansing micellar water close at hand.
"What I'm wondering is how I didn't notice until I gulped down the entire mouthful," she captioned the video, hinting at her shock and confusion.
Newsweek reached out to @izzypoc for comment via TikTok. We could not verify the details of the case.
Micellar water is generally safe for use on the skin but, according to experts at Poison Control, can cause irritation if ingested. Drinking it can lead to stomach discomfort, nausea, or other mild symptoms due to its soap-like compounds.
TikTok users reacted to Izzy's mishap with a mix of concern and amusement, sharing their own unexpected mishaps with personal care products.
"Does it … does it not taste? I feel like idk what micellar water is," asked Bambi, echoing the collective bewilderment.
"ARE YOU ALIVE?!" wrote Sinu.
"This has to be a unique experience," another viewer remarked.
In a relatable twist, some users even shared their own cringeworthy mix-ups. "I once squirted a s*** ton of vape juice into my eyeball thinking it was contact solution," wrote Lauren.
"I drank micellar water half asleep and it woke me up straight away bc of how bad it tasted. How did you drink so much?" another user sympathized.
"One time I took a huge sip of nail polish remover cause I was half asleep and thought it was a water bottle," another user admitted, proving that Izzy is far from alone in her accidental drink blunder.
