Woman's 5-Year-Old Is Almost the Same Height As Her—Here's Why

A mom-of-three has shocked viewers after sharing the height of her 5-year-old son online.

Rachel Flowers, 28, posted a video on her Instagram profile of cuddling her son Kyle on the couch, shocked by the fact that their feet were touching. It had been a while since he had hugged his mom like that, and so Flowers asked her husband Ezra, also 28, to take a video so that she could remember the moment.

"And on the other hand, I couldn't believe how long he was on me. I was inspired to share it because I felt it was pretty unique to feel almost squashed by your child when they are only 5," Flowers told Newsweek.

Flowers, who is 5 feet, 4 inches tall, and her husband, who stands at 6 feet, 4 inches tall, are used to their 1-foot height difference, but their son Kyle's rapid growth has been a surprise. At just 5 years old, he is already 4 feet, 1 inches tall, just over 1 foot shorter than his mom.

When Kyle was born, the couple thought he might take after his petite mom, as he weighed 6 pounds, 11 ounces, but he quickly defied those expectations.

"By six months, he was 22 pounds and in 12- to 18-month clothing. I specifically remember his doctor showing me his growth chart and how it just looked incredibly steep; it was hilarious. He was exclusively breastfed until 1, too, and so I was always starving, and it felt like he constantly was hungry. It was hard work, but it's what he needed apparently," Flowers said.

Her clip has clocked up almost 9 million views and nearly 700 comments from people in shock and awe of Kyle's height. "He's 5? I thought he was 9 at best," one commented, while another posted: "I'm cooked."

Many others shared how they could relate to Flowers' problem of being one of the "short girls."

"I'm a tall girl who married a tall guy and that's how it looks when I cuddle my 3.5 year old," one wrote. "My son is literally half my size and he's not even one yet. Hubby is 6'4" am 5'2"," another commented.

Flowers said that, while she and Ezra are used to Kyle's height, the reaction online found his stature to be a shock. "But also a lot of people relate to it, so I guess it's not as unique as I thought," she added.

Flowers' clip served as a true reminder that parenting comes with its fair share of surprises.
