A woman online shared her love story that has stood the test of time.
A TikTok video posted by couple Meg and Tyler (@megandtyler) has gone viral after sharing how they got married after Tyler moved away for six years. He promised that one day, he would return home and marry her—and he did just that. Since the video was posted, it has received over 366,000 views and over 15,000 likes.
"My best friend moved away for six years, but promised that one day when we are older, he will move home and marry me," Meg captioned the video. "And six years later, he came home and did exactly that. We used to call each other the one that got away, but I guess we were wrong."
Meg and Tyler's love story began when they were children. In the comments, Meg shared more about their journey.
She wrote that the two have "so many stories" growing up together and memories that they look back on now that they are married. But when Tyler moved away from England, there was a chance he would never come back.
"We didn't wait for each other, as there was a high chance he would never be moving home, so we knew our chances of being together were slim," Meg wrote. "But as soon as he got back to England, we moved in together."
While the two were apart, Meg wrote that Tyler visited her when he had time off—but only three times in the six years. When he did visit, though, they spent all their time together. When they were apart, they sent loving messages to one another.
"I have full albums of our old messages through the six years saying we miss each other and that we know we will be able to be together one day," Meg wrote. "We read through them all the time."
People in the comments gushed with well wishes for the destined-to-be couple. Some even shared their own experiences with long-distance waiting.
"Not as long apart as this...we tried dating, but he was moving away for work and that wasn't for me," @vickimcalea wrote. "We both dated other people, but came back together a year later. Now nine years on, and kids."
"What a beautiful story. It was meant to be," @jpp4689 wrote. "I left England and my best friend when I was six. Family returned when I was 16...I saw him again, now married 35 years. Wishing you happiness."
In response to some comments saying Meg and Tyler's story should be picked up for a streaming series, Meg agreed.
"I would definitely be up for a Netflix series," she wrote. "We have 15 years of stories that I'm sure people would enjoy...Sometimes, you do really know when someone is meant for you—and the best thing to do when the time isn't right is to be patient and they will come back to you."
"Would have waited forever for him," she said.
