When Stacey handed over her purse so her boyfriend could retrieve their mail key, she didn't expect to be put on the spot.
But his reaction to what he found at the bottom of her bag rendered her speechless.
In a video on TikTok, Stacey (@sober.hag) explained that the discovery led to the first moment in her two-and-a-half-year relationship with Peter where she struggled to explain herself.
"He confronted me and he was like Stacey, the entire bottom of your purse is covered in raw almonds. You need to throw that away," she said.
Newsweek reached out to @sober.hag via TikTok.
While some may find the situation unusual, Stacey had a clear explanation. Rather than an emergency stash if she got hungry, the almonds weren't for her, they were for some of the wildlife she encounters during her day.
Stacey told her boyfriend that she has carried raw almonds around in her purse for years, often spilling them for what she described as a "terrible bag from Trader Joe's." Instead of discarding the loose almonds, she keeps them as a treat for the neighborhood squirrels and crows.
"Usually, they pick it up and they stare at me while they eat it and it's a little special moment that we have," she told viewers.
Stacey went on to share that she's building trust with a local murder of crows, with hopes that they will eventually recognize her and bring her "little shiny presents" in return.
Stacey's clip has been viewed over 134,000 times and received over 500 comments from other TikTok users who were delighted with Stacey's goodwill. "Solid planning," one user commented. "This story made my day," wrote another.
Some were even inspired by Stacey's plan of action. "I'm so glad I was early to this and I'm def [sic] stealing this idea," said a third. "I am 1,000 percent going to get purse almonds tomorrow," another wrote.
Stacey also revealed in the comments that Peter was a man of few words but had bought her a bag so that the raw almonds were no longer loose in her purse.
While Peter didn't immediately understand the plan, Stacey is optimistic that he'll come around: "After certain point they're gonna recognize me and then he's gonna understand."
