A couple from Michigan received an unexpected result after deciding to have a baby.
Christy Beck and her husband, Ryan, were eager to start a family immediately after getting married, but having a baby wasn't as easy as they had hoped.
"We couldn't get pregnant for years, and even with the help of doctors and IVF treatments, nothing worked," Beck told Newsweek. "We were so exhausted and crushed and spent our entire savings trying."
The couple decided to take out a $30,000 loan for one final round of IVF, despite it having a 6 percent chance of success. "We decided to give it one last go," Beck said.
During the waiting period, Beck was so anxious to know if it had been successful that she took a home pregnancy test, which was positive.
"I couldn't believe my eyes, so I took 10 more just to be sure I was seeing correctly. They were all instantly positive! When my husband got home from work, I had them all lined up on the kitchen counter to show him," she said.
The couple's joy quickly turned to fear when Beck started bleeding heavily. Doctors assured her that the pregnancy was still viable and confirmed her positive result. During the first ultrasound, the couple discovered they were having twins.
Weeks later, during a third ultrasound, they discovered one of the eggs had split and that they were expecting triplets: identical twin girls and a boy.
Beck, who was 42 when she gave birth, said doctors asked her about a selective reduction, a procedure sometimes recommended in high-risk pregnancies to improve outcomes for the remaining babies.
"I didn't even have to think about it and immediately answered 'no,'" she said. "How could I after everything I had been through? This was meant to be."
At 32 weeks, Beck's water broke in the middle of the night. The couple drove to the hospital, and hours later, Cali, Elli and Rockwell were delivered safely—each weighing 3.5 pounds.
On Instagram, Beck posted a reel to the account @the.becktriplets showing her husband holding all three babies in his arms. In the clip, which has received more than 2 million views, on-screen text said, "My husband after I told him I wanted to try for a baby."
Beck told Newsweek that being a triplet mom was everything she had dreamed of and more.
She said, "I count my blessings every single day because I never thought I would be able to experience the kind of joy and happiness that motherhood brings."
