Yankees Predicted To Sign $4.5 Million Star After Tanner Scott Whiff

The New York Yankees are reportedly looking to add more help to their bullpen this winter. They've already gone out and traded for Milwaukee Brewers closer Devin Williams, but they still need a lefty for the backend of games.

Reliever Tanner Scott would have made a lot of sense, but Scott signed a massive contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers already.

Rucker Haringey of FanSided recently predicted the Yankees to sign Texas Rangers reliever Andrew Chafin after missing out on Scott in free agency. Chafin is projected to sign a deal worth $4.5 million this winter, per Spotrac.

"Tanner Scott would have been the ideal signing for Boone and his coaching staff but the Dodgers' offer far exceeded what New York was willing to pay," Haringey wrote. "That means the club should pivot to Andrew Chafin as the runner-up in their left-handed reliever sweepstakes.

"The former Rangers star appeared in 62 games last season and struck out 70 batters in just 56.1 innings. He may have lost a tick or two on his fastball in recent years but he's still exceedingly tough on quality left-handed hitters. There's a chance Chafin can be landed on a one or two-year deal with a moderate salary based on his age. Every day that passes should see his asking price decline."

Chafin was good in 2024 and should sign for a very reasonable price. The Yankees need to add talent and Chafin fits the bill. Adding him would be a great addition for New York.
