The New York Yankees are unsurprisingly in pursuit of the biggest targets this offseason, in both the free agency market and the trade market.
One of the prized targets this offseason is Chicago White Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet. The 25-year-old posted a 3.58 ERA in his 32 starts for the White Sox, racking up 294 strikeouts in his 146 innings pitched.
The trade to acquire Crochet, however, may be more than Yankee fans anticipated.
"I texted Jeff Passan" said Jomboy Media's Jake Storiale on the Talkin' Yanks podcast, "And I mentioned (Spencer) Jones, (Jasson) Dominguez, and he said he's not sure if those two would get Crochet."
Dominguez and Jones are currently ranked as the No. 1 and No. 2 prospects in the Yankees' system, respectively. Dominguez, the only one of the two to make his major league debut, has played 26 games at the big league level, slashing .207/.310/.437 (107 OPS+) in 100 plate appearances.
Jones spent the 2024 season with the Yankees' AA affiliate Somerset Patriots where he hit .259 with 17 home runs in 122 games. He is currently ranked as the No. 46 prospect in baseball by Baseball America.
These two outfielders are inarguably the Yankees' two biggest trade chips, at least in terms of prospects. If a proposed trade that includes both of them would not get a deal done, the Yankees may have to pull from their major league roster if they want to stay in the running for Crochet.
