With Android 15 QPR2 Beta 1, VPN by Google was pre-installed on the Pixel Tablet. Pixel Tablet owners on the stable Android 15 release can now download Google’s VPN via the Play Store.
As of last week, manually opening the Play Store listing for VPN by Google on Android 15 returned a “This tablet isn’t compatible with this app” message. That is no longer the case, with stable users able to install it and set-up the service. (Use the Play Store’s “Open” button to do so, and you can place the Tile in Quick Settings after that.)
Google has yet to update the support document for the VPN. Officially, it’s still “Pixel 7 & later.” This was always an artificial limitation as the app was downloadable for a brief period on the Pixel Tablet in June. The connection worked until Google disabled the Tablet from signing in via a server-side update, and listed it as incompatible in Play.
Today’s Play Store availability is more official than sideloading VPN by Google, which started working sometime in November.
Google never promised VPN service for the Pixel Tablet, so this is a nice bonus that helps unify the lineup.
