YouTube Music rolling out 2024 Recap with ‘Your music character’

2 days ago 5

YouTube Music is already rolling out the 2024 Recap to streaming service users. The summary builds on the previous yearly updates of your listening habits.

On Android and iOS, you may now see a banner stating that your “2024 Recap is here” after scrolling past the recently added “Speed dial” section within the YouTube Music app.

Alternatively, you can check if your 2024 Recap is ready by tapping your profile avatar in the top-right corner and opening the “Your Recap” option. Now tap “Get your recap” to get an Instagram-like story or use options such as “Top tracks,” “Your playlist,” “Top artists,” “Listening timeline,” and more to jump to a specific collection or section. You may also have luck heading to yt.be/music/recap too.

When your story is ready you’ll get a guided rundown of the “vibe” of the music you’ve listened to throughout 2024 with options such as “Hyped” and “Pumped up” being prominent in my own recap. From here it’s a by-the-numbers affair with YouTube Music noting just how many minutes you’re listened to various types of music, artists, specific tracks, and even lets you save your 2024 Recap playlist for later listening.

YouTube Music has made a big push to promote podcasts and spoken word media over the past year and the 2024 Recap is the first to include podcast listening stats. From what we can tell, this does include video podcasts in the total.

Last year the theme was your album cover, this year it’s “Your music character.” Your listening habits result in a designated character. In my case it was “The Muscle” due to listening to “high-energy hits” – which drum and bass is 100% considered as.

We’re seeing the auto-generated playlists and 2024 Recap appear on several YouTube Music accounts and it appears that this is rolling out slowly as per previous reports. Let us know what you have been labeled as part of your own recap below.
