YouTube, one of the most popular video streaming platforms, is testing a new feature named, ‘Play Something’ for the smartphone application. With this feature, YouTube will play the suggested videos as per the requirement. A report published by 9To5Google stated that the Play Something button will appear as a floating action button on the latest beta version of the YouTube application on Android devices.

YouTube Play Something button appears

The YouTube Play Something button will appear in the place of the minimized video player when someone opens the application. When a user taps the button, a video will start playing that has been selected by YouTube by keeping the preference of users in terms of video streaming in consideration. The video player appears in the portrait orientation with buttons for Like, Dislike, Comment, and Share on the right edge of the screen.

Apart from that, the video players will appear to be identical to that of YouTube Shorts. Apart from that, the Play Something Button also plays regular YouTube videos in the same portrait orientation. However, if the minimized player is active then the Play Something floating button will be inaccessible. YouTube previously also revealed that the platform is testing a new feature letting the creators ‘restyle’ licensed audio tracks with the help of artificial intelligence for YouTube Shorts.

The ‘restyle’ option will be a part of YouTube’s Dream Track initiative and is currently available to select a group of creators with access to a limited selection of songs. All the creators who participate in the experience will get to choose an eligible song and they can also decide how they want to edit to same. The AI generates a 30-second track tailored for YouTube Shorts.
