Zayn Malik canceled his concert minutes before he was supposed to take the stage.
On Tuesday, December 3, the 31-year-old singer, currentlyon the road for his Stairway to the Sky Tour, called off his show in Newcastle, England. The former One Direction member took to his Instagram Story that night to explain that his voice was too unhealthy for a performance. "I'm so sorry to do this but my voice just isn't there at all tonight and without it there's no show," Malik wrote.
The British singer apologized to his fans for scrapping the show at the last minute in his post. "I'm truly sorry to let you down, especially at such short notice... l held onto hope until the very last moment. I'm hopeful with some rest tonight tobe back on stage tomorrow. My deepest apologies Newcastle love you all xx," Malik penned.
According to Metro, concertgoers were alerted about the cancellation via an announcement a few minutes before Malik was supposed to go on.
This isn't the first time Malik had to cancel a concert from his Stairway to the Sky Tour. The former X Factor contestant postponed his U.S. tour dates after his One Direction bandmate Liam Payne tragically passed away in October. The 31-year-old fell to his death from the third-story balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Malik was in attendance at Payne's funeral on Wednesday, November 20, in Buckinghamshire, England. He also paid tribute to the late singer during his November show in Leeds, England, displaying a message on the screen that read "Liam Payne 1993-2024 Love you bro," with a red heart.
Malik will close out the U.K. leg of his tour this month. He is supposed to play Manchester on Wednesday, December 4, and then Edinburgh on Sunday, December 8, and Monday, December 9. Then, in 2025, Malik will embark on the newly scheduled U.S. portion of the tour, hitting five cities: Washington DC, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Las Vegas.
