Vannessa Cross prepares to undergo skin removal surgery on 1000-Lb. Best Friends, but the reality star is worried about the possible risks of the procedure.
TLC shared a teaser via Instagram of the upcoming Tuesday, November, 26, episode, where Vannessa, 46, was seen dealing with conflicting emotions.
“It’s like, I’m happy, I’m sad,” Vannessa said in a confessional interview. “I’m not sad. I’m just scared and happy. I never thought I’d be here. But I just, it’s like genuinely scared because anything can happen when you’re on that table and they aren’t.”
The reality star continued, “Elective surgery is not something you go into lightly and the fact that these people are gonna chop me in half and in quarters and in pieces and take things off – and add things. It’s scary.”
Over the past three seasons of 1000-Lb. Best Friends, Vannessa lost 273 pounds. During her drive to the hospital, the influencer reflected on her life living in a “400-pound prison.” After seeing bestie and costar Meghan Crumpler’s confidence burst after getting skin removal surgery, Vannessa knew she wanted that happiness in her life and to become a “born again skinny bitch.”
During her time on the show, viewers have become Vannessa’s biggest cheerleaders in her weight loss and health journey. Fans admired her determination to work out and maintain healthier eating habits in order to get approved for skin removal surgery.
“So proud of her. She has worked harder than anybody has ever worked on this show and all the TLC shows. She deserves to be happy and be able to move around and feel the success of all her hard work,” a fan wrote in the comments section of TLC’s Instagram post.
Another person commented, “I’m so proud of her. Anyone who has gone through a massive weight loss understands the emotional aspect of it. You have to also heal the inside to reflect the outside now.”
During season 2, Vannessa opened up about her insecurity about the loose skin between her legs that developed after losing weight.
“Since I lost the weight, my vag is all just skin. It looks like I have a three-inch penis with these big old fat balls,” she said in a confessional at the time.
Vannessa later gushed, “I have had so many different breakthroughs. I feel like I’ve been locked up for 20 years — been in prison for 20 years and now I’m free. I get to see things in the world I didn’t get to see.”
In October, Vannessa revealed that she underwent phase one of skin removal surgery after getting “turned down by a couple plastic surgeons.”
“[It] blew my mind because it wasn’t nothing but a bunch of hanging skin. But finally, I found a doctor that accepted me and I had my plastic surgery,” she told People at the time. “I had Betsy May chopped off, honey! She gone! She’s swimming somewhere!”
After being free of excess skin, Vannessa continued to dive head-first into a healthy lifestyle.
“Now, I get to go to the gym and run and have no issues whatsoever. That is amazing,” she continued to the outlet. “I actually live life now. Instead of being the big person that’s just existing, I’m living.”
