The highly anticipated return of TV drama 1923 is almost upon us and one of its emerging stars, Michelle Randolph, shared what fans can expect.
Part of the Taylor Sheridan-produced run of hit shows on the Paramount Network, 1923 broke ratings records when its first season aired two years ago.
Starring Oscar winner Helen Mirren and Hollywood legend Harrison Ford, 1923's second and final season will debut on the small screen on February 23. It is the origin story of the acclaimed show Yellowstone and also takes place on the Dutton family ranch, led by Cara and Jacob Dutton (Mirren and Harrison).
It follows the challenges that come with running their successful business. 1923 is also the sequel to Paramount Network's other Montana-based series, 1883.
In 1923, Randolph stars as the formidable Elizabeth "Liz" Strafford, a feisty and capable young woman and the fiancée of Jack Dutton, who moved the family to Montana 40 years earlier.
Randolph spoke with Newsweek about getting her big break in the Sheridan universe—she also stars in the recent hit Landman—and what will happen in the new season.
"I'm pinching myself, it's surreal...and I am so grateful because it's really hard to get established in this industry," Randolph said, adding "the fact that he [Sheridan] put me in scenes with Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford is a big deal and I don't take it lightly."
Randolph was also confident that 1923 fans would likely enjoy the upcoming season even more than the first.
"It is worth the wait, it will keep you on the edge of your seat," Randolph said. "It's not going to disappoint and it's a really good story. I think people are going to love the second season maybe even more than the first."
As for her character, Randolph teased that viewers will meet a transformed Elizabeth and should not expect to see the same woman they met in the first season.
"When we met her, she's was a young woman and in love, and in season one, we see her go through many hardships, but now she's a Dutton and we really see her come into her own," she said. "There's an underlying strength in her that I was really excited to explore for season two."
Fans got excited in December when a first-look trailer and images were released ahead of the sophomore season and showed the Duttons fighting to keep their ranch in the family's possession.
"In season 2, a cruel winter brings new challenges and unfinished business to Jacob and Cara back at Dutton ranch," a Paramount Network's official synopsis read. "With harsh conditions and adversaries threatening to end the Dutton legacy, Spencer [Brandon Sklenar] embarks on an arduous journey home, racing against time to save his family in Montana.
"Meanwhile, Alexandra [Julia Schlaepfer] sets off on her own harrowing trans-Atlantic journey to find Spencer and reclaim their love."
Season 2 of 1923 is streaming February 23 on Paramount+.
