The San Francisco 49ers dropped another game to the Kansas City Chiefs, 28-18, on Sunday. The team struggled to reach its full offensive potential, especially after wide receiver Deebo Samuel was removed from the game.

Samuel complained about not being able to breathe correctly, and after jogging into the locker room, he rejoined the sideline in street clothes. It was revealed that Samuel was dealing with a significant illness.

After the game, Samuel was checked into the hospital, where it was determined that he had fluid in his lungs. He was diagnosed with pneumonia, which made complete sense as to why he had to leave the Week 7 game.

Samuel's status for Week 8 has been in question this week, especially after he left the hospital. However, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan offered a promising update on the wide receiver.

Shanahan offered an update about Samuel's hospital trip. When asked what the prognosis was, the head coach stated:

"Pneumonia. He's out of the hospital. He got in here yesterday, doing better than you'd expect with that stuff, and we'll see how he goes throughout the week."

An additional question was asked to Shanahan, which was if Samuel had a chance to play on Sunday. The 49ers coach responded with a resounding, "Yes."

For Samuel to suit up so soon after being admitted to the hospital is quite spectacular. Granted, Samuel was not injured in any way. However, pneumonia is a brutal illness that can take weeks to recover from.

The 49ers need a big win after dropping to 3-4 on the season. They are facing a well-rested Dallas Cowboys team on Sunday, who are coming off a bye week.

The Cowboys are also 3-3 and are looking to stay relevant in their own division. It could be expected the team will come out with some intensity.

The Seattle Seahawks are in first place in the NFC West with a 4-3 record. The 49ers are right behind with a 3-4 record, but they need to put together some wins to recapture first place, and to be feared like they were in 2023.

The issue is the 49ers just lost wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who tore his ACL and is now out for the season. With Aiyuk and Samuel sidelined for Week 7, the team struggled mightily.

There is also an injury concern with tight end George Kittle, who is dealing with a foot ailment.

Also on the injury report is running back Jordan Mason, who was limited on Wednesday with an ankle injury, and receiver Jauan Jennings, who didn't practice Wednesday due to a hip injury.

The entire 49ers offense is seemingly dealing with injuries, and getting back Samuel will be of the utmost importance.
