San Francisco 49ers rookie running back Isaac Guerendo sustained a foot injury and is questionable to return in Sunday's matchup with the Chicago Bears.

The 49ers were down to their third-string running back in Guerendo as both Christian McCaffrey and Jordan Mason landed on injured reserve earlier this week.
Prior to Guerendo's injury, the rookie tallied 15 carries for 78 yards in addition to two catches for 50 yards. Guerendo also recorded two touchdowns in his first game as the lead running back.
Guerendo left to the 49ers locker room with a little over five minutes remaining in the Week 14 matchup.
The saga in San Francisco continues as injuries have ravaged the 49ers squad this season. The best-case scenario would be that Guerendo is only sidelined for Sunday's contest and will be able to return for San Francisco's next game against the Los Angeles Rams.
The 49ers lost the first matchup between the two NFC West teams and the chances of beating the Rams seem slim if Guerendo's injury prevents him from playing next week.
The backfield responsibilities were mainly managed by Mason this season as McCaffrey didn't make his season debut until Week 10. Mason recorded 153 carries for 789 yards and three touchdowns prior to going on IR.
McCaffrey played in four games this season before sustaining a season-ending PCL injury. With Mason and McCaffrey out, the 49ers turned to Guerendo to shoulder the load.
However, the severity of Guerendo's injury is unknown. The 49ers will likely reveal more information regarding the rookie in the coming days.
The 49ers improved to just one game under .500 with a 38-17 triumph over the Chicago Bears. San Francisco now has a record of 6-7 and will look to continue their win streak with a victory over the Rams next week.
If Guerendo is unable to play, the San Francisco run game will likely suffer as a result. The unprecedented number of injuries for the 49ers this season is a clear indication that San Francisco's Super Bowl window is quickly closing.
Once the bullies of the NFC, the 49ers are now hanging by a thread in their division. San Francisco remains last in the NFC West, which means next week's matchup with the Rams is extremely important.
The good news is that the 49ers looked more like themselves against the Bears on Sunday, which could be a sign that San Francisco will end the season on a high note.
