Over the years, of Reese Witherspoon’s best-selling book club picks have also become some very beloved TV shows and movies.
When Witherspoon started her book club in 2017, we’re guessing the actress didn’t know it would become multi-million dollar business. After all, it seems like Witherspoon is just happy to celebrate women’s stories and connect with her fans through her new book club picks each month.
Through the years, however, Witherspoon’s selections have become an important part of her empire. In addition to skyrocketing the selected books into millions of sales and making them into almost instant bestsellers, Witherspoon also acquires the screen rights for many of her picks so if any of them are set to be adapted, she gets first dibs.
As a result, Witherspoon, and her production company Hello Sunshine, have since adapted many of the books into movies and TV shows. Among some of our favorites are Where the Crawdads Sing, starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, and the hit Prime Video series Daisy Jones & The Six.
We’re expecting to see plenty more adaptations of Witherspoon’s book club picks, such as her inaugural selection, Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman which is currently in the process of being developed by Hello Sunshine with Fleabag and Killing Eve director Harry Bradbeer at the helm. Until that is done, we currently have six screen adaptations of Reese’s book club picks to keep us going.

‘Where the Crawdads Sing’

Starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, 2022 film Where the Crawdads Sing tells the story of Kya Clark, a young woman who grew up fending for herself alone in the North Caroline Marshlands and became known as the smalltown’s “Marsh Girl.” Her life completely changes, however, when she’s accused of murdering one the town’s most handsome men and is trialed in front of everyone.

‘Little Fires Everywhere’

Witherspoon joined the cast of Hulu’s 2020 series Little Fires Everywhere which is based on Celeste Ng’s book of the same name.
The novel and the series follows the picture-perfect Richardson family and a single mother called Mia (played by Kerry Washington) who moves into their small town and begins an intense rivalry.

‘From Scratch’

The original memoir, titled From Scratch: A Memoir of Love, Sicily, and Finding Home by , tells the love story between Tembi and a professional chef, Saro, as they fall in love and forge their own untraditional path together despite the disapproval of his family. That is, however, until his journey with cancer turns their reality upside down.
The 2022 Netflix miniseries starred Zoe Saldaña and Eugenio Mastrandrea.

‘Daisy Jones & The Six’

Daisy Jones & The Six, which went from a Taylor Jenkins Reid novel to a Prime Video hit in 2023, tells the story of the budding singer Daisy Jones and she partners with a band called The Six and together they become one of the biggest bands in the world in the 70s.

‘The Last Thing He Told Me’

Starring Jennifer Garner, Angourie Rice and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, The Last Thing He Told Me was adapted into a series in 2023. The novel, by Laura Dave, follows a woman named Hannah who finds herself searching for her husband, the ever-so-mysterious Owen, with her stepdaughter Bailey after he goes missing and just leaves a note saying “Protect Her.”

‘Tiny Beautiful Things’

In 2023, Kathryn Hahn starred in Hulu’s adaptation of Cheryl Strayed’s book. Hahn played Clare, a writer who reluctantly finds herself writing a very popular advice column during a period of turmoil in her life.
The series was based on Strayed’s compilation of essays from her former advice column, Dear Sugar, which she wrote anoymously for The Rumpus.
