A Taylor Swift-themed cruise from Florida to the Bahamas took a tragic turn when a 66-year-old woman fell overboard.
A representative for the U.S. Coast Guard told TMZ that the Royal Caribbean cruise ship filled with Swifties left the Port of Miami on Monday and was about 17 miles north of Nassau in the Bahamas when the incident occurred on Tuesday night.
The woman, who was not named by officials out of respect for her family’s privacy, reportedly tumbled off the Allure of the Seas ship and plunged into the sea at around 9:40 PM. It’s unclear if the woman was part of the group of Swift fans on board.
Despite extensive search and rescue efforts by the Royal Bahamas Defense Force with assistance from the U.S. Coast Guard, the woman remains missing.
The defense force confirmed to TMZ that the 66-year-old woman jumped from the 14th floor of the ship and subsequently called off rescue efforts.
Swift, 34, was not part of the cruise. Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time that a recent and unofficial Swift fan event ended in tragedy.
In July, three girls were fatally stabbed and eight other children were injured during a knife attack in Southport, England, at a dance class dedicated to the “Shake it Off” singer’s music.
"The horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport is washing over me continuously and I’m just completely in shock," wrote Swift on her Instagram Story in response at the time. "The loss of life and innocence and the horrendous trauma inflicted on everyone who was there, the families, and first responders. These were just little kids at a dance class. I am at a complete loss for how to ever convey my sympathies to these families."
Swift has not issued a response to Tuesday’s tragedy on her social media accounts as of publishing time.
