Aaron Taylor-Johnson reveals disappointing wrap 'gift' he got from Russell Crowe after seeing 'amazing' presents he gave co-stars

Aaron Taylor-Johnson has spoken about the disappointing gift he was given by Russell Crowe after they wrapped the movie, Kraven the Hunter.

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Tuesday (December 10), Taylor-Johnson joked that he had been hoping Crowe might gift him a $500,000 Patek Philippe watch, after learning of the wrap presents he had given to their fellow co-stars.

Taylor-Johnson and Crowe are starring in the action movie, which is set to hit movie theaters later this week.

The origin story shows how Sergei Kravinoff (Taylor-Johnson) became Kraven, the greatest hunter in the world, after an encounter with a lion changed the young man’s fate.

Speaking about the movie, Taylor-Johnson revealed what it was like to work with Crowe.

“He was cool, though. He was amazing. He gave everybody amazing wrap gifts," he said.

“One day, he said, ‘come to me, son. Come. Sit next to me. Look at this watch'.

“I was like, ‘Whoa! That’s an incredible prop.’ He went, ‘No, this not prop. This real thing.’”

Taylor-Johnson explained he dropped some subtle hints about Crowe passing the watch down to the 'next generation', referencing how in the movie, Crowe plays his father.

He added: “[I] said, ‘They say, Papa, you never really own a Patek Phillipe, you merely look after it for the next generation'.

"I was pretty quick! And I am the older son."

Listing the wrap gifts that Crowe gave to some of the other cast, Taylor-Johnson explained he was hopeful that the watch might be coming his way.

“Young Sergei [Levi Miller], he’s given him a wad of cash, like over a grand’s worth of cash — changed this kid’s life. And the other kid, Dimitri [Billy Barratt], he loves him, he’s clearly got a soft spot for this kid because he’s into music and obviously Russell loves his music, so he gives him an electric guitar, like a Les Paul,” he said.

“And so I think, ‘Okay, so the bar’s pretty high at this point.’”

But turns out, Crowe didn't actually own the watch and just had it on loan.

And when it came to the gift Crowe had for him, it was truly something money couldn't buy - a handshake.

“He comes over to me and he puts out his hand and I instantly notice there’s no watch. I’m like, ‘Okay, here we go,’” he said.

“And he goes, ‘It was really great working with you, mate.’

“But no, he’s a really good dude and he’s fantastic in the movie.”

Kraven the Hunter arrives in movie theaters on December 13.
