The Alpha Gang just got a whole lot bigger.
A pack of A-listers, including Dave Bautista, Channing Tatum, Steven Yeun, Zoë Kravitz, Léa Seydoux, and Riley Keough are joining two-time Oscar winner Cate Blanchett in Alpha Gang, the new alien invasion comedy from the Zellner Brothers.
The film, set “in a heightened reality” follows a group of alien invaders who disguise themselves as a 1950s leather-clad biker gang on their mission to conquer Earth. But their ruthless plans are derailed when they encounter humanity’s most contagious condition: Emotions. Blanchett is set to star as the alien leader, Alpha One.
The project is one of the buzziest new titles being shopped to international buyers at next week’s American Film Market in Las Vegas. France’s mk2 Films is handling international sales on the title, with CAA Media Finance managing North American distribution rights. Mk2, who produced Oscar-winner Anatomy of a Fall, kicked off pre-sales for the film at the Cannes market earlier this year.
David and Nathan Zellner are hot off the success of their out-there Big Foot comedy Sasquash Sunset, which starred Keough and Jesse Eisenberg, both unrecognizable under their hairy costumes. Cinematographer Mike Gioulakis, who shot Sasquatch Sunset, and was the cameraman on Jordan Peele Us and Old from director M. Night Shyamalan will lens the project.
The Zellners will also produce Alpha Gang for ZBi, alongside Blanchett and Coco Francini, producing through their Dirty Films outfit. Other producers include Gina Gammell for Felix Culpa, Ryan Zacarias for Fat City, Mary Aloe for Aloe Entertainment, and Andrea Bucko for Sugar Rush Pictures. Executive producers are Sean Krajewski, Ronnie Exley, Lawrence Minicone, and Jeremy Ross for Rabbits Black, Tyler Peters and Sophie Curtis of Electric Void, and Tom Ogden, in association with Aloe’s partners at Partners in Kind, Gillian Hormel and Shelly Tygielski.
