Artificial intelligence has given us a glimpse of what Elvis Presley might look like today if he hadn't tragically passed away in 1977 at the tender age of 42.

Fast forward to January 8, 2024, and The King of Rock and Roll would have been celebrating his 90th birthday. It's not beyond the realms of possibility that he could still be with us today had he not succumbed to hypertensive cardiovascular disease back in the 70s. Elvis was discovered lifeless in the bathroom of his Graceland mansion. He had been battling constipation for four months, with one expert theorising that the "strain of attempting to defecate" put pressure on his abdominal aorta, leading to heart failure.

What would have been his landmark birthday, is shared with another music icon, David Bowie, who would have been 78 today. Bowie's death at the age of 69 was also examined in an autopsy documentary.

Elvis' diet was far from healthy, often indulging in cheeseburgers while holed up in his room. He also grappled with vertigo, back pain, insomnia and eye infections and was rushed to hospital in a semi-comatose state in 1973, suffering from severe respiratory distress.

The singer was also plagued by hepatitis and a bleeding ulcer, tipping the scales at over 25 stone at the time of his death.

In fresh images conjured up by AI Midjourney Elvis seems to have shed some of the weight he piled on in his later years and the pictures still portray him with a full head of dark hair.

The variety of shots show a pale singer, possibly brought on by years of living behind closed doors. And at the age of 90, wrinkles are noticeable, with one photo capturing him looking almost gaunt with dark eyes.

Regrettably, Elvis was plagued by numerous health problems in the lead up to his demise. He was reliant on a full-time nurse and reportedly refused to bathe for the entirety of 1975, leading to sores breaking out all over his body.

In a mishap back in 1967, he suffered a severe head injury tripping over a TV cord and knocking himself unconscious on the edge of a bathtub.

California-based eminent physician Forest Tennant suggests this injury could have sparked a progressive autoimmune inflammatory disorder as a fragment of the star's brain tissue dislodged and infiltrated his bloodstream.

His personal life was also blighted with tragedy. The star's first heartbreak was when his beloved mother Gladys Love Smith Presley died.

She died on August 14, 1958, at the age of 46, just two days before her singer son would die 19 years later. It's said Elvis was never the same ever again, as he was incredibly close to his mum and they shared a strong bond. Her death came as Elvis was first starting to star in movies, make record sales and many TV programmes.

Elvis was the King of Rock and Roll with fans across the globe, but turned to abusing prescription drugs.

It's reported his drug abuse began taking effect on him as early as 1973, the year he divorced his first wife Priscilla Presley. He spent three days in a coma in a hotel room after overdosing on barbiturates, which was the second time in less than a year he had overdosed.

By the summer of 1977, he had virtually collapsed, weighed 25 stone and was bed-bound relying on nurses' care. Elvis' girlfriend Ginger Alden discovered his body, with his pyjama bottoms around his ankles and his rear end raised.

Toxicology examinations revealed the presence of 14 distinct drugs in Elvis' system at the time of his demise. However, nearly 50 years after is passing Elvis' legacy lives on, and he remains an iconic figure. The singer is one of the best selling artists of all time, with sales estimates of his albums between 500million to one billion globally.

Elvis also holds several records, including the most RIAA-certified gold and platinum albums. The late performer has inspired a legion of impersonators. In polls and surveys, he is recognized as one of the most important popular music artists and influential Americans
