Alec Baldwin‘s saga with the movie, Rust, continues after the film made its world premiere at the Camerimage International Film Festival in Poland on Wednesday, Nov. 20. Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer accidentally killed on the set, was recognized for work at the industry event. That isn’t enough for Hutchins mother, Olga Solovey, who is still grieving for her daughter.
“It was always my hope to meet my daughter in Poland to watch her work come alive on screen,” Solovey said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday, Nov.19. “Unfortunately, that was ripped away from me when Alec Baldwin discharged his gun and killed my daughter.” She claimed that Baldwin “continues to increase my pain with his refusal to apologize to me and his refusal to take responsibility for her death.” She believes that “he seeks to unjustly profit from his killing of my daughter.”

Baldwin’s involuntary manslaughter trial in Santa Fe, New Mexico abruptly ended in July when it was dismissed with prejudice by the judge. The prosecutors and police investigators reportedly withheld evidence from the 66-year-old actor’s legal team and the case was dropped. The movie’s armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed is serving an 18-month sentence for involuntary manslaughter. But for Solovey the pain lingers, “There is still no justice for my daughter,” she wrote.
The aftermath of the Rust shooting in 2021 has haunted everyone involved. Director Joel Souza, who was injured during the incident, spoke to Vanity Fair in August about where their relationship stands today. “Getting through it was tough,” he said of returning to the set to complete the movie after the devastating indecent. “We got through it. I got the performance I wanted. We’re not friends. We’re not enemies. There’s no relationship.”
Baldwin has slowly stepped back into the limelight as well. He returned to Saturday Night Live in its 50th season to play Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and he and his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, and their seven children have a TLC reality show coming in 2025. He’s said very little about Hutchins, likely due to pending civil suits, but it’s clear his life has never been the same.
“I think back, and I think of what could I have done?” Baldwin told ABC News in December 2021. “[Halyna] was someone who was loved by everyone who worked with [her] and liked by everyone who worked with [her], and admired… I mean, even now I find it hard to believe that [she’s gone]. It doesn’t seem real to me.”
