Alexandra Șipa Explores Heritage and Innovation in SS25 "In Good Company" Collection
Emerging Romanian designer Alexandra Șipa takes inspiration from her cultural roots in her latest collection, "In Good Company." A graduate of Central Saint Martins, Șipa is known for her modern reinterpretations of traditional Romanian lace, creating intricate, ethereal designs that pay homage to her heritage.
“Lace is the fabric of my culture,” Șipa shares in a press release. “It’s everywhere I look — in the rugged edges of my grandmother’s iron fence, the delicate stone flowers on weathered gray buildings, and the soft curtains in a local shop.” This deep connection to lace fuels her creative vision, which transforms the material into bold, unexpected forms for her Spring/Summer 2025 collection.
Using deadstock lace from sustainable suppliers, Șipa pushes the material to its limits, twisting, stretching, and reshaping it into striking designs. The collection layers textures and sensory elements, drawing inspiration from Romania’s wintry atmosphere — the earthy scent of damp concrete, the cold beauty of brutalist architecture, and the sweet nostalgia of savarina, a beloved Romanian dessert.
“In Good Company” is as personal as it is innovative. Every piece is modeled by Șipa’s friends within the cozy confines of her apartment, a deliberate choice to capture intimate moments of femininity, sensuality, and vulnerability. The setting enhances the collection’s exploration of shared memories and the nuanced expressions of womanhood, weaving a heartfelt narrative through each design.
Alexandra Șipa’s SS25 collection is a testament to her ability to honor tradition while pushing creative boundaries, blending the past and present into a compelling vision of contemporary fashion.
