Angelina Jolie is thrilled after scoring a vital victory in her divorce battle against ex Brad Pitt – but she’s well aware the war is far from over and is bracing herself for major challenges, expense and stress moving into 2025, a source exclusively tells In Touch.
The Salt actress, 49, alleged that her husband Brad, 60, physically and mentally abused her and their children. In a bombshell court filing, her lawyers claim the actor’s “history of physical abuse of Jolie started well before the family’s September 2016 plane trip from France to Los Angeles, this flight marked the first time he turned his physical abuse on the children as well. Jolie then immediately left him.”
According to court documents, “Pitt lunged at his own child and Jolie grabbed him from behind to stop him,” during the flight in question. “To get Jolie off his back, Pitt threw himself backwards into the airplane’s seats injuring Jolie’s back and elbow,” the filing says. “The children rushed in and all bravely tried to protect each other. Before it was over, Pitt choked one of the children and struck another in the face.”
The docs also allege Brad poured alcohol onto the heads of Angie and some of the kids. He’s denied all of the accusations of abuse so far, but a recent legal decision may uncover and make public even more shocking claims.
A judge ruled on Monday, November 25, that the Oscar-winning actor must turn over documents and communications that Angie has claimed will prove he covered up the alleged domestic violence.
“She is taking this as a huge win,” the insider says, “she’s said from day one she will not be bullied, and that hasn’t changed.
The divorce battle has been ongoing for almost a decade, with both taking shots at each other through their lawyers. While this most recent victory “has definitely sparked her fire,” Angie is “well aware that she’s still facing a long road.”
“As much hope as this ruling gives her, she is by no means ready to sit back and take it for granted that she’ll be vindicated.”
The two share six children – Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 16 – who appear for the most part to be taking their mother’s side in the split. Shiloh even petitioned successfully to drop “Pitt” from her last name, leaving her Shiloh Jolie.
“She will do whatever it takes to be sure that the truth comes to light. She does believe in her heart that karma will get Brad in the end, one way or another, but she would obviously love to be the one delivering the blow,” the insider adds.
“For his part, Brad is insisting that he’s not worried. But there’s no denying this has been a huge blow to his case, he thought he had it all sewn up, but clearly it’s not going to be the easy win he thinks and Angelina is more than ready for the fight.”
