I don't know about you, but this new year is feeling a little dreary and lacklustre where the weather is concerned. Thankfully, when inspiration is lacking weather-wise, we can always rely on fashion to cushion the blow with de rigueur delights.
This season, one of my favourite anti-trend pieces is a winter-ready wool skirt. While it may sound uninspiring at first, I've come to appreciate a wool skirt as one of the core pieces in my winter city wardrobe thanks to it's plethora of styling options, and, much to my delight, it has already this year it has graced the feeds of many of my favourite fashion insiders.
I'm paying silent homage to a particular marl grey Prada number that remains front and centre of my mind but truthfully, you needn't spend upwards of a thousand to reach the desired effect. Each winter, wool skirts become a popular skirt choice and the style has elevated beyond the range of form-fitting jersey skirts they once were. This season, designers have paved the way for lightly woven flouncy silhouettes (as is the case with Alaïa), traditionally inspired column wool skirts (which COS excels at) and asymmetric styles with a utilitarian look.

MARIE ADAM-LEENAERDT
Checked Wool Midi Skirt
Marie Adam Leenaerdt's reimaged tartan skirt is entirely directional—from the fanned-out angular shape to the tonal check print. I'd pair it with a deep conker brown knit and pointed-toe lacquered knee-high boots (it's the little details).
Prada's wool skirts are a cut above the rest and the price point is reflected in the expert cut and quality. Featuring tenuous details like the turn-up hem and distressed tonal grey, it's an unpretentious yet effective design.
