Insurance and reinsurance broker Aon has promoted Ciaran Healy to the role of Global Captive Leader for the firm’s Commercial Risk Solutions division, a position that will see him also with responsibility for the management of insurance-linked securities (ILS) and protected cell structures as well.

ciaran-healy-aonHealy moves into Global Captive Leader role effective January 1st 2025, while John English who was previously Chief Executive Officer, Aon Captive & Insurance Management, is moving to the role of Chairman of Aon Global Risk Consulting (AGRC).

Healy hails from that division, having most recently held the position of Chief Commercial Officer for AGRC.

As Global Captive Leader, Healy will be charged with accelerating Aon’s core capabilities for clients, including across captive management, captive advisory, captive reinsurance, insurance-linked securities and protected cell companies.

Aon Insurance Managers, the division of the broker that establishes and manages structures, including insurance-linked securities (ILS), across a wide-range of domiciles, will now sit under Healy’s oversight.

Aon Insurance Managers is one of the more active managers of ILS vehicles and structures in the world, while also operating risk transformation structures that help ILS funds and ILS investors to access risk more efficiently.

This includes management of special purpose insurers (SPI) and other structures for catastrophe bond issuance, as well as protected and segregated cell companies that are used for collateralized reinsurance and other capital market backed arrangements.

In the role, Healy will lead a team of more than 500 Aon employees, largely across North America and EMEA regions, from his base in Dublin and reporting to Richard Waterer, Global Leader of AGRC.

Waterer commented on the news, “Ciaran is a highly effective, client-centric and commercially driven leader with great experience to build on the momentum we’re seeing in the captive space and the increasingly central role that captives will assume in Aon’s broader Risk Capital strategy across Reinsurance and Commercial Risk.

“Under Ciaran’s leadership, Aon’s captive team will deliver further innovation as our clients increasingly turn to options outside the traditional insurance market to protect and grow their businesses.”
