Apple is finally putting a halt on its faulty notification summary feature

Apple, after multiple instances of mishaps, is finally putting a stop to its AI-generated notification summaries for all the news and entertainment applications. The Cupertino-giant faced a lot of criticism due to the inaccuracies due to the notifications.

The same has been confirmed in the latest developer previews for the iOS 18.3 update for iPhones, Macs, and iPads. Now, the whole scenario is that the feature will be unavailable for the time being. Apple will most probably re-enable the summaries after making the feature error-free and reducing the scope of misinformation.

Apple AI Notification Summaries issue

For those who are unaware, the Notification Summary feature of Apple merged articles on three different topics that were published by The New York Times in a single notification in November 2024. Apart from that, the feature further grouped multiple articles from BBC in a single notification due to which a lot of ruckus was created.

And these instances were immediately identified by the publications. Their response to the same was that Apple shouldn’t have released a half-cooked feature. Not only the AI Notification Summary generated headlines were false, but they also had the potential to create panic and chaos.

That being said, you can disable the feature on your iPhone by following a few simple steps. The first step is to Open the Settings application on your iPhone and then head to the Notifications option. Here you can turn the ‘Summarize Notifications’ feature off. As of now, the feature can be turned off only in the iOS 18.3 beta version. Pretty soon, we will get to see the same in the stable version as well.
