90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days season 7 introduced fans to Sunny Mahdi, who believed that he and girlfriend Veah Netherton could be the “perfect couple.” However, they come from two different cultures, which could get in the way of their relationship. After getting engaged during episode 18, many fans are wondering if Veah and Sunny’s romance stood the test of time.
Who Are 90 Day Fiance’s Veah and Sunny?
Sunny is a 25-year-old Bangladesh native who moved to South Africa to help his father run a grocery store. Most of his family still lives in Bangladesh. He met Veah, a 27-year-old from Orlando, Florida, on an international dating app. According to Sunny, Veah grew up in foster care and had a “difficult” childhood as one of eight children.
As seen in the September 15, 2024, episode, Veah made plans to visit Sunny in a few days. However, Sunny was already having trouble trusting his girlfriend because she didn’t always pick up her phone and was still close friends with her ex. He was nervous that the lack of trust would cause issues during her visit, as well as the potential culture clash.
Veah told her friends in episode 3 that she was excited and nervous to meet Sunny in person. If the trip went well, their next step would be getting engaged and Sunny moving to America. However, Veah invited her ex-boyfriend, Rory, on the trip with her because she was nervous about traveling alone, and she didn’t plan on telling Sunny until they arrived in South Africa.
“He can be really cute and really loving and really caring,” Veah told Rory in a clip shared by 90 Day Fiancé on Instagram. “But we’ve had our bad times. He gets really pissed off. … That side of him I don’t like seeing.”
Rory said in a confessional, “I’m excited to go to South Africa, but I’m nervous to see how this plays out.”
Veah traveled to South Africa during episode 4 and still had yet to tell Sunny that she had an extra companion joining her for the trip. Veah was stressed from the moment she stepped off the plane, worried that Sunny would spot Rory.
“I still haven’t told Sunny that Rory’s here with me. And honestly, I’m just flipping,” Veah admitted. “Like, I don’t know what to do … We don’t have a plan. Sunny could easily see Rory and be a complete s–t show.”
Although Veah and Sunny had a warm first in-person meeting, their problems started immediately once they arrived at the hotel as Veah refused to eat a curry that he made. Although Sunny found her behavior “rude,” he chose to overlook it. The night turned around for Veah when she saw the room Sunny had decorated with rose petals and candles, and she truly appreciated it. However, this put her in a difficult position, as she was uncertain about how to tell Sunny that her ex-boyfriend had come along on the trip.
“A part of me doesn’t want to tell him and I just want to keep going on and living in like this happy paradise, that we’re in right now,” Veah said during the October 20, 2024, episode. “I just don’t want to ruin our cute moments together.”
Veah’s Ex-Boyfriend Rory Accompanied Her on the Trip Caused Drama
Veah and Sunny went on a romantic gondola ride but the nice outing quickly turned nasty as only two hours later, Sunny found out Veah brought Rory with her to South Africa.
“During a break in filming, Sunny saw a photo on Veah’s phone of her and Rory traveling to South Africa together,” a title card read.
Veah chased Sunny as he refused to talk to her after learning the bombshell. “Don’t f–king follow me. I don’t wanna talk. I don’t even wanna see your f–king face,” he sternly told her. “Don’t even f–king touch me. Go touch your ex-boyfriend.”
Although Veah tried to convince him that Rory came for “support,” he wouldn’t accept her reasoning behind the decision. “You’re bringing your ex to see your new boyfriend,” Sunny clapped back as he broke up with her. “Am I f–king dumb to you? Do I look dumb?”
Sunny initially refused to talk to Veah, but after her persistent attempts, he eventually agreed to have a conversation. He told her that she really hurt him by bringing Rory along with her on the trip. In response, she said she was afraid to tell Sunny about Rory and emphasized that there were no romantic feelings between her and her ex-boyfriend.
Sunny accepted her apology and spent the night with her, hoping the three of them could become friends.
90 Day Fiance’s Sunny and Veah Argued About Religion
Sunny and Veah were focused on their relationship after Rory returned home to the United States. Veah was introduced to Sunny’s father, who had strong opinions about her tattoos. He told her she should remove them, along with mentioning that she looked “healthier” in her photos.
He then asked if she would convert to Sunny’s religion of Islam, and she said no. He continued to push the issue, which caused Veah to become upset and storm off from the restaurant.
Sunny told his dad that Veah wasn’t comfortable, but his dad only said that he didn’t like what he saw in her. Sunny later met up with Veah and defended his dad.
During episode 17, the pair decided to spend their one-year anniversary on a trip to the mountains of Drakensberg. Although they were still reeling from the awkward meeting with Sunny’s father, they hoped to move forward and make it a nice outing.
“I felt really bad how things turned out with Sonny’s dad, but he was so adamant that I need to convert,” Veah told the cameras, wondering if Sunny had the same expectations of her converting to the Muslim religion.
Meanwhile, Sunny was happy to be on a getaway with his girlfriend but was confused about their future as a couple. “I’m feeling also guilty deep in my heart because I’ve been thinking about a lot and I really need to talk to her about converting her religion to the Muslim,” he said, admitting he wanted a Muslim wife.
On their first evening, Veah surprised Sunny by wearing sexy lingerie and the pair agreed to “mess up” the hotel bed. Despite having a good time, Sunny knew he had to talk to Veah about converting to his religion at some point during the trip.
“I want us to enjoy our time together,” he said in a confessional. “But there’s an important conversation that I’m holding back all the time.”
After a surprise dancing show, Sunny decided to confront Veah about converting to his religion. “You know that I’m Muslim. So, if we are together, you have to change your religion. You have to,” Sunny told her.
Veah said she was “not f–king becoming Muslim” and called him out for being influenced by other people. She also slammed him for having sex before marriage. Sunny told Veah that if she did not change, he wouldn’t be with her and stormed off away from the table.
Sunny and Veah’s Engagement Wasn’t Accepted by His Father
After an emotional night together, Sunny and Veah decided to move past the argument and spend a romantic day at a nearby waterfall.
During the outing, the couple rekindled their connection after spending a romantic day in nature. Despite their differing religious beliefs, Sunny chose to propose to Veah, and she gladly accepted.
“Knowing that she never gonna change her religion, I would have to sacrifice my family because they’re never going to accept her,” Sunny said in a private confessional during episode 18. “At the same time, I love her … Veah is special to me and I don’t want to lose her.”
However, Sunny’s father wasn’t happy to hear the news. Following their engagement, Veah and Sunny met up with his father to celebrate the milestone and the scene was immediately tense.
Veah told Sunny’s father that if they got married, Sunny would come to America. “I don’t think so,” the patriarch replied as he shook his head.
Sunny’s father then asked Veah if she planned on converting her religion, and she said, “When Sunny proposed to me, he said I did not need to convert.”
Sunny’s father said that wasn’t acceptable and confirmed that his son would need to choose between her and him. Sunny’s dad eventually got irate and walked out, telling him, “Don’t count on me for anything in the future.”
Are 90 Day Fiance’s Veah and Sunny Still Together?
Fans will have to continue watching 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days season 7 to see how Veah’s trip to visit Sunny turns out. It’s unclear if the couple is still together in 2024, but they follow each other on Instagram — which seems to hint that they’re at least still friends. However, neither Sunny nor Veah appear on each other’s pages outside of promos for the show.
Veah mostly shared cryptic or funny quotes on her page in the days leading up to her 90 Day Fiancé debut, including one September 4, 2024, video where she wrote, “I’m not the type to tell you to stay away from my man. If he entertains you, he was never mine to begin with.”
On the other hand, another quote on her page suggested that she and Sunny may simply be keeping their romance offline. “When you are happy with someone in private, you don’t need to prove it on social media,” the September 5, 2024, post read.
Meanwhile, Sunny shared a few videos with the location tagged as South Africa throughout 2024, hinting that he might not have made the move to America — yet.
